Well, hopefully someday you'll realize I have absolutely no preference for a brand.

My opinion on Destiny's success is genuine. The ambition with this game was phenomenal, but it will obviously end up suffering of the duck syndrome : it can fly, it can swim, it can walk, but it isn't exceptionnal at any of them.

The graphical clarity and the universe/story seem top-notch to me. It is really the gameplay that has me worried.

MMO : From what has been shown it is a very light MMO, and the missions are repetitive. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding the dynamic aspect of the universe such as the introduction of the Death Star, this is why I might revise my prediction end of June.

And the competitive FPS component where Bungie should have been excellent really has me worried. Destiny is taking the opposite approach to Halo 2 : unbalanced PvP.

This is the same "fighter" that has had a ken avatar forever, right?

To be brief, I feel sales2099 is more accurate about the market, and he would say he does have a preference.

I'm not saying your opinion isn't genuine, I'm just questioning how you got there.

There are a few things I agree with. The action doesn't look all that spectacular to me, but I've only seen that level where they fight in the cave or whatever. Secondly, you should be more careful about using the word mmo. MMO is nearly synonymous in online speak with MMORPG, and this game cannot be called that. Something only becomes repetitive when it becomes boring. You could call anything repetitive, CoD, BF, Dota, Marioparty.

As for the pvp, I'm sure it will be fine. Just because you can upgrade your equipment doesn't mean the pvp is going to suck. I can't even think of a single game that has a "level playing field" anymore. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say that a 'level playing field' is a relic of the quake, UT days.

My main problem with your opinion, especially with what you said above, is that you aren't critiquing the game, you are comparing the game to other things and arbitrarily deciding that it sucks. PVP not balanced the way halo 2 balanced things, therefore imbalanced. A portion of the game is all that has been shown several times, therefore repetitive.

But of course, you reserve the right to revise your prediction? Dude. Predictions are important. You can't just revise whatever you said away. Predictions are your word. You want to be cautious? Then don't make predictions....because it's stuff like this that has massaged my perception of you.

Yes, I've had the ken avatar forever.

Yes I'm criticizing the game and I don't understand why you have an issue with it:

Is it because you disagree with me on the features and gameplay that we know of ? I stand by all my observations and I don't see what changes they can do to fix that before launch (except maybe the AI which sucks in the frequent outdoors but seems good in the rare closed environments - i'll update that end of June depending on the eventual fix and how frequently you get in-doors)

I see your point regarding the eventual MMO to MMORPG confusion and don't worry. When I say it is very light for an MMO i mean it.

Is it because of the the Bungie factor ? If yes obviously Bungie has an amazing reputation and this is why actually I do not take it into account :

They are doing things completely new to them gameplay-wise.

The production values are Halo-esque (UI/ Universe/ Music / graphical precision etc.) but the gameplay you have to admit is absolutely not similar to Halo. So don't be surprised if I don't give in blindly because it's Bungie.

And yes I reserve the right to revise my prediction by end of June.  I might just revise the numbers and I don't see what novelty/improvement might be implemented in such a short delay to change the overall perspective.

Rest assured that I i'll still predict a flop and a free-to-play model by 2016.

I have an issue because I don't understand how you come to the conclusion from the evidence.

AI will be better. That's a given. It's an alpha.

The fact that they are doing completely new things gameplay-wise is fine. Look at insomniac. Sunset overdrive is basically ratchet and clank but with a brand new gameplay style. Or Naughty dog with the last of us. Completely different from uncharted gameplay wise, as was uncharted from anything they did prior.

Nobody says to give in blindly just because it is Bungie. But a new ip is a new ip. Look at watchdogs. There are so many new ip's done by huge studios and it's pretty rare for them to flop. Even bad games like ff13 still do really well. Look at red dead redemption, which was so far different from both the prequel, red dead revolver, as it was from grand theft auto, but still rockstar did it. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to show me a major developer who has made a new ip which has flopped. I honestly can't think of one.

It's already free to play....or did you mean micro-transaction model?

What gameplay do they need to fix?

bungie is on the name so it won't flop.

They need to become like RAE and release a few shit projects in a row for people to go not the same company.

???

It's the opposite of Halo 2 and 3... Those were purely based on skill, symmetry of powers. Destiny is the opposite, you unlock weapons and powers through the SP and then show-off in PvP. And so many of Destiny's skills feel floaty and imprecise (warlock rockets, jetpacks, etc.)

There is no SP.

Its ALL online.

I don't see the contradiction with online.

Campaign would also be inaccurate.

Would SP/Co-op make you happier ?

Example - "you can't even play PvP until you've unlocked a certain level in the SP/Coop".

you mean you cant play onlinen till youve finished the tutorial, you hit max level by the end of the tutorial which unlocks online.

Well your point was wrong regardless you do not only gain unlocks from exploring as you implied... You gain them from every gameplay mode you do including pvp...

It seems you are confusing levelling and unlocking.

Bungie explicitely said that

- they don't want players to go into PvP without a minimum set of specialization

- you level cap is to be reached soon

- then it becomes a "gear collection game"

Nope. The game is heavily preordered, has a lot of hype going for it. It's made by Bungie, AND has the full backing of Activision; who are going to spent mega bucks on advertising.

I'm sure it's an incoming flop

Check the pre orders and the marketing and compared it to WD numbers. Then tell me where you got the slightest indication that Destiny will flop.

I mean you can't play PvP until you've developped somewhat your caracter. So you enter the PvP arena with your class already somewhat specialized.

The beta is on July 17th for PS4. Damn, you cannot even get that right. I disagree strongly.

so it's officially still the "alpha" that will be accessible this thursday on PS4

to be honest it's a marketing stunt as by definition the alpha build is never released to the public

i'll keep the wording to "beta" in the OP

alpha and beta are just marketing terms anyway these days, so you may as well use the correct word to stop confusion instead of pretending you know better.

the correct word is "beta"

The Alpha opens on Thursday on the PS4, however.

I knew this as my followng post says. It is not the main bug testing part they are dong. It is far more limted in total of people who get in. Basically, I am repeating myself.

With the preorders and marketing budget, it won't flop. It will sell huge numbers. I would accept a bet with you that it does 4M+ of combined sales until the end of 2014.
