Forums - Sony - Introducing Resogun’s All-New DLC: Heroes

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/09/introducing-resogunas-all-new-dlc-heroes

I say all the time that Resogun – the brilliant arcade shooter from Finnish developer Housemarque – remains PlayStation 4’s single best game. Some folks may not agree, but I’m hard-pressed to think of a game on the PS4 that shares its addictive, skill-based qualities and fine-tuned gameplay. Either way, as a PlayStation 4-exclusive launch game, Resogun is in need of a fresh coat of paint, and with the upcoming Heroes DLC, it’s about to get just that.

In short, Resogun’s Heroes DLC contains two new modes and an all-new patch. Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to reveal to you the nature of the patch or one of the modes – at least, not yet -- but I can tell you about the other mode: Survival. Survival Mode revives Resogun’s superb gameplay – gun-shooting, ship-boosting, bomb-laying and all -- but puts an all-new spin on things that makes chasing high scores as much of a necessity as ever. It also makes the entire game a bit more tense, too, since you only have one life to live, and one life only.

Survival Mode isn’t simply a basic overlay of the Resogun experience you already know and love. While it plays just like Resogun at a basic level, Survival Mode comes toting a series of new bells and whistles that gives it its own unique, dynamic flair. There are new graphical nuances and flourishes, fresh sound effects, different item icons, and even a new soundtrack. Oh, and there's a slate of new enemies to do battle with, too.

The biggest change between classic Resogun and its Survival Mode DLC, however, is that while Resogun feels the same, the rules of the game have fundamentally changed. In addition to only having one life to life, Survival Mode draws you along by daring you to complete full in-game day/night cycles to progress. The more of these cycles you complete, the higher your score will become, but of course, this comes at the sake of ever-intensifying combat that quickly becomes super busy and overwhelming. It provides for an awesome challenge, one that I sense will get lapsed Resogun players back into the mix.

Another fundamental rule change – one that alters the way the game is played – is that the appearance of little green humans is much more common in Survival Mode than in the standard game, and you no longer need to pick them up and drop them off to earn points. Now, humans fall with regularity from the top of the screen, and they’re affixed to parachutes to steady and slow their descent. More humans can be drawn out by killing certain enemies or achieving certain combos, and merely grabbing them before they escape or perish will up your score significantly. No drop-offs necessary.

Resogun’s Survival Mode – along with its mysterious other new mode and patch -- will be available in the near future at a still undisclosed price. And yes, you’ll have new Trophies to earn, too!

I really enjoyed playing Resogun. It's one of my favourite games on the PS4 so far. Looking forward to checking out the new DLC.

Yeah last level can be very difficult depending on what ship you're using.

I also played most of the game in co-op which is much much easier.

looks like i need friends then.  :(

..which is the best ship?   i was using the one on the left,.. the one with a less powerfull but homing style gun.   honestly i can almost beat it cause i can fairly consistently get to the boss.  but when the boss does that verticle tenticle thing i almost always die.  there is an entrapment element that i can't seem to not get caught in.

DAY 1 BUY.  Resogun is great.  It and Wolfenstein are tied for best games I have played on PS4.

I found the Phobos to be the best for the final level. It is more difficult to get to the boss hence why co-op helps. But it can easily beat the boss. When it does the verticle tenticle thing is a one of the best times to use the overdrive and do massive damage to it. It's final stage where it is snaking up and down the screen while chasing you is actually really is if you boost into the gap inbetween the boss and kill it from inside.

there is a gap inside the boss?   i'll have to look for that.  i've always tried to run as far away as possible where the tenticles are less thick.

Nice! Enjoyed Resogun very much, definitely getting this.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Great news everyone, the humans are back! The explosive PS4 launch title, RESOGUN, is finally getting more content in the form of the Heroes expansion and a complimentary patch.

RESOGUN: Heroes will introduce two brand new modes called ‘Survival’ and ‘Demolition’. In essence Survival is an endless mode that retains a lot of the core mechanics from the original Arcade mode. We switched up a few things like scoring and also gave the humans parachutes as you can see in the image below.

The Day/Night cycle is another really prominent feature of the new Survival mode, and as you play, the varying time of day provides a great aesthetic and visual indication, letting you know how far you have come.

Survival mode is for the players that know they can always do a bit better and there are a lot of cool new things to learn while you take the ride, but as we intend to stay true to the arcade feeling, we will let you discover the twists yourself.

Demolition is my personal favourite and a quantum leap from the original gameplay mechanics. “Arkanoid meets RESOGUN” is one way to sum it up.

Basically you get a “Wrecking Ball” that you manipulate to demolish all that comes in your way. That plus a lot of special pickups that totally change the way the game kills you; multiball, extra balls, ball launching, ball level ups, (i.e. lots of balls) etc.

Demolition has you watching out for not only the enemies coming at you, but also the chaotic bombardment of the unpredictable main weapon in the mode. Oh yeah, you can also only move and your only weapon is a limited proximity explosion. No boost, overdrive, or bombs. TL:DR You will die a lot, it will be insanely fun and I cannot wait to see people throwing their controllers around.

In the patch we will have a lot of small fixes to improve the original game, new leaderboard and friend functions, plus a lot more we will explain in greater detail later. On top of all this all RESOGUN owners will get the Ship Editor and the Local Coop mode for free!

Sounds too good to be true, but we felt like these needed to be a part of the core RESOGUN experience, so therefore patching them in for free seemed like the proper way to go.

The patch will go live for everyone on June 23. The Heroes expansion will then go live on June 25 and the full price will be €4.99. But, we are also providing an option for you to buy a season pass that includes the Heroes expansion pack, and will let you be the first to download more great game add-ons that we are developing, as soon as they’re released, at no extra cost.

Future expansions will add yet more game modes, along with a range of other content, additional trophies and the original soundtrack, and the season pass is attractively priced at a lowly €7.99, which is simply a steal for the convenience it offers and ensuring you have the full and definitive RESOGUN experience.

And, if you don’t have RESOGUN, there will be a discount on the main game from 25-June to the 8-July.

That about covers it. The humans are back with a vengeance and greener than ever!

If there has ever been a game that deserves money for a season pass, it is this game.
