what is it, guys? if i had to rate the points it would be: 2>>1>>>>>>>>3 is there anything else i missed? what other reasons are people buying so many ps4s? also, i think its interesting to point out that if the ps4 wins this gen, which i think we all pretty much know thats going to happen, it will be one of the few times the most powerful console wins a generation. i wonder why there is an exception this time around. one last point: i think this discussion should make it perfectly clear to everybody that the ps4 isnt going to do any kind of ps2 marketshare numbers. there is no way. the main reason being that the ps2 had a dvd drive driving sales tremendously. and it actually had exclusive games out the ass. |
It's just a superior machine in every way imaginable.

Nailed it.
I was expecting MS to come with about 2x stronger box than One, which would put them at, more or less, the same advantage performance-wise that PS4 has now - even if that XBox was $500 Sony would have much more problems in US/UK.
And great point C), Sony probably gained (or regained) lot of fans due to their output in last few years.
Price and Power have a role but unlike the last generation Sony not having one year to catch up also a factor. think the headstart neutralized Microsoft's biggest advantage last generation and the PR was heavy fuel that cemented a lot of peoples' choice on what console to get.

It is quite honestly the first point. Microsoft and Nintendo dropped the ball, Sony´s engineers were fantastic and made a powerful console for a good price and Sony has been ....rather...pro consumer ever since early 2013 (compared to MS).
The firstparty studios/ management absolutely dropped the ball though.
The biggest reason in my opinion is simply that PLaystation is the biggest brand and as long as they don't fuck it up like they did with the PS3 price the first years, they will sell much more consoles by default.
There are so many people who bought a 360 instead of a PS3 just because it released much earlier (especially in Europe) and because the PS3 price was so high that they simply chose the 360 because most games were the same on both consoles. All these people have no reason to chose something else as a PS4 this time around.
Even before all the console reveals, Microsoft mistakes and low Wii U sales it was pretty clear to me that PS4 will easily sell the most as long as the price and time of launch will be comparable to the competition.
Simple, it's Playstation.Even though it had a high price, hard to develop for, came a year later and a bare bones online structure, it still out sold the 360 every year. The Wii on the other hand was dirt cheap and a fad.The main reason for doimg that was because it was Playstation. People keep saying it made a come back, the only thing it had to get back was America, world-wide it was dominating, that's how strong the brand is.

PS brand is widely known as a console. Handheld business always felt niche, despite the okay success of PSP, there's was never a huge hype around it. Home consoles though, PS always build strong franchises, well known and essential ones at that mind you, and build a very extensive fanbase based on that, not just some volatile hype. Of course hype helps too, mainly in the first years, but I think the PS brand is just too strong. Like Nintendo brand, but Ninty is messing up recently.

I think its 1>2>3.
But more importantly its also priced at a really good price and is the most powerful.
