Forums - Microsoft - xbox needs to be remarketed?

Kindle fire tv, Apple tv, and ruko...devices that try to be streaming media devices with gaming.  They may succeed at streaming but they're multiple generations away from where the Xbox 360 is right now. Now that Xbox 360 has removed its paywall for apps it light years a head of any other streaming device.  Last year during black Friday Wal-Mart had Xbox s-360 for $99, which is the perfect price point for a premium streaming device.  The 360 needs to be remarketed but most likely msft will focus on Xbox one and let the Xbox 360 die a slow death...anyways I will be picking another 360 this black Friday to replace my chromecast in my bedroom.

Anyways just my two cents

If you believe the supposed leaks before the x1 reveal, there was supposedly a plan to release a version of the 360 without a disc drive that woukd be marketed just as you describe. Supposedly the idea was canned, but if there is any truth to it then the designs shoukd still be kicking around microsoft somewhere... Could be a good idea for a final hardware revision...

I won't. I'll just be buying a wiiU in a couple weeks. EDIT: There was already an idea like this last year or so. I believe it was called "stingray" and it was going to be 99$ or something close to that. Anyway, it never came out. But also, I disagree with you that they are going to let 360 die slowly. It actually looks like they are doing quite a lot to keep it going. Already a few cross-gen first party titles, including the blockbuster titanfall that they themselves funded. Right now, I think they are more interested in selling 360s than they are interested in selling x1s

The 360 is dying very quickly. There's no point in marketing it now when they are also trying to market the X1 as a device with loads of multi media functions.

The Fire TV really isn't much behind the 360.

No, it needs to either drop the price much lower, because now people are buzzing on the PS4 (better multi-platform titles do that)... and once the price is lower, well they will be the console people get as a compromise, as opposed to the console they get because this is the one they want (obvisouly many people will also want it because Halo, Gears, etc. but so will many people want Uncharted, god of war, wipeout, whatever else Sony has in store).

At this point I think the momentum is pretty much set for the foreseeable future, this is safe to say that unless Sony stops making PS4 games and prevent 3rd pardty + indies from publishing on their console they will have the upper hand for the whole generation (which may be short, the hardware is probably easy to upgrade in both machines...).

360 still sells a ton of software and has millions of people paying for Gold (MS recently said 12 million people take advantage of Games with Gold).

With that said, I think the 360 is worth some marketing. They're still supporting 360 with new games and apps. Its clear they see value in it.

Maybe before they remarket it as a streaming device, they could do what they should have been doing for the last two years by marketing it as a gaming console by releasing good games on it, something which they have neglected to do.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

$99
No Disk Drive
8GB of Storage
Arcade games and Apps only
Comes pre-loaded with 2 Arcade games and some major apps

Always thought they should have done this last year.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

Microsoft problem is not Xbox 360.

Microsoft problem is Xbox One.
