Similar rankings, but nowhere near the same sales numbers. The planets aligned perfectly for the PS2, and sales like that for a home console will likely never happen again.

PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m

So PS4 will sell less than the PSP?

This is correct. The PS4 will be Sony's main console for 5 years. If it can sell an average of 200k a week for 5 years, it will sit around 52m by the time the PS5 comes out. That leaves a generous 8m left over the last 6th and 7th year as it sells for $179.99 and $129.99 respectively.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Around the Network

WiiU: 16m
XB1: 65m
PS4: 100m

So no.

yeah PS2 was one of those freak selling consoles, not even Wii reached that level

It makes the Nintendo fan in me cringe, but I don't think the PS2 will ever be bested in terms of home console sales.

As this gen seems much like the 5th gen, I can say that PS5 probably will surpass PS2, as it surpassed the PS1 because the market was inclined to Sony, maybe it happens again and in a major scale, you know, the world always have more and more people buying things, the numbers will rise.

Maybe many generations in the future, But not any time soon. Think about it. They wern't following the normal console generation cycles back then, which led to their console being on the market for longer than the competition. The PS2's only direct competition when it released was the Dreamcast which was already on its death bed. Developers already hated it because of the piracy issues. Its secondary compitition was the sputtering N64. Another console that developers hated because of the high cost of cartridges. Add to that over a year head start over the Gamecube and Xbox, and we were living in a world where the internet and mass gaming news was nowhere near as popular as it is now. Except for the hardest of hard core gamers, no one even knew the Gamecube and, especially, the Xbox were even coming.

Currently, Sony is following normal generation cycles, has two dirrect compitent competitors, and game media is huge right now.

Call me crazy, but PS2-like home console sales wont happen for a long long time if they ever happen again.

ps4:120-130 millions
xbox one:60m-70m
wii u 30m

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Kind of like the 6th gen as far as order, as least according to my guess, but they will be spaced out a bit more. My guess is by the end of the gen it will look like this

Ps4 100-120 million
Xbox one 70-90 million
Wii u 20-40 million

Lol, XO 70 milion? XD

Yes?  It is a guess, what is wrong with that?  That is expecting it to be another 10 year lifecycle, averaging 7-9 mill a year.  Doesnt seem too out there.

2/3 of current 360 owners have no interest in the Xbone even at a $399 pricetag.

Multiply .33 by 80 million and you get 26.4 million.

Consider the fact that some new-comers to the gaming industry might buy the Xbone over the PS4 and the most educated guess would place Xbone's LTD at 30-40 million.

It's game over for MS.

You know how many people don't want xbox one at 399$ before it happen?

It will be similar, but I think Xbox will be 2nd

PS4 - 80m
Xbox One - 40m
Wii U - 20m

nice

I think it's going to be

PS4 - 140
Xbox One 50-60
Wii U 18-22

I do not think the PS4 is going to crack past 100M and the Gen will probably not be as long as we are thinking.

Id go with something more like this:
90M = PS4
50M = X1
20M = WiiU

It's possible that MS doesn't like where this gen is heading and will attempt to force a new generation 2 years from now.

MS just seems like a company that's unwilling to stick with a product if it's not an instant success.

Big thing is, is that I think Nintendo will do it first, then a year or so later MS will follow suit (And so will Sony).  We have had a good bit of rumors early on that MS wasnt really ready for the reveal and I bet they are wanting to beat Sony to the punch next gen.

It will be like this Gen tho, with Sony continuing pretty good support for their console where the others might drop it earlier.

One can always hope that that is the case.

Well we will have to wait, but the PS brand is getting the old love it lost with the PS3 back now, and I can only see a future in which Sony dominates the market totally with the next console, in which may come at 2018-2020. Just if newcomers get really well in the market, or Sony screws up the PS5 launch like the PS3, I think Sony next console will have something like 70%+ of the marketshare (it will get 50%+ already this gen IMO), and that's absolutelly above 150M to a new gen. Well, we have so much things to consider that I can be really really wrong, but it's what I can see right now.
But the PS4 don't seems like can break this barrier.

I agree that the PS4 will have roughly 50-55% market share this gen. Hoping for anything higher than that is a pipe dream though. In a world with 3 consoles, a 70-80% market share for one console is simply not possible any more.
