Select Mario Kart 8 players have randomly lost their save data

It seems like there's an issue going on with Mario Kart 8, but hopefully it's not a widespread one. We've had a few people email in to let us know that their MK8 save data was wiped without any reason. One minute the game data is fine, then the next time people sit down to play, their data is gone. Has anyone else out there randomly lost their MK8 save data? Thanks to Nick for the heads up.

From what I've read, a common factor is an external hard drive and a physical copy of the disk. So those with those 2 might want to check/be careful.

That's weird. I don't really choose the same characters so I'm not too worried.

It happened to me on Sunday I lost everything, I have not explanation I was playing online then I turn off the console for an hour the when I got back all was gone even my Online points.

I call shenanigans. This is a Nintendo console. Like a fucking rock.

Were my factors the same for you, or should I change my developing hypothesis? 

God dang it Nintendo, you've got a lot of fixes to make!
