So this year I was in a game design course and there were people who were flat out unwilling to even try the Wii-U gamepad when I brought it into college. The obvious advantages of the gamepad can't compete with that level of bias against it obviously.
Thankfully Mario Kart seems to be does seem to be selling Wii-U's into the hands of people who weren't about to get it, and they're getting two games for the price of one. This allows Nintendo to try and introduce the Gamepad to more people and prove that its not the uncomfortably-unwieldy, downright bulky interface it looks like. Obviously the free online and offscreen play are nice advantages people will be very happy to take advantage of which makes that a very clever move by Nintendo. - And this set up will be going on for the best part of two months, which suits the fact that Mario Kart games usually sell quite strongly for a good-while after launch.
Also unlike Titanfall its a true exclusive which is obviously a massive advantage, but its not quite as hyped as Titanfall on the much younger Xbox One. - Though lets not get into which will outsell which in life-time sales, the Xbone or the Wii-U; that mostly depends on if/how badly the PS4 beats the Xbox One. What I'm interested in is which you think will have longer legs in terms of increasing console sales. - We all that pre-Titanfall the Xbox One was selling comparably to the Wii-U, post Mario Kart the same could be true once more - but for how long, and at who's expense? (For sake of argument, this is in a vacuum - without games like Monolithsoft's X, Smash Bros, Halo, Bayonetta, Fable, Zelda FIFA, and such. They're all pure wild-cards at this point.)
I've got high hopes for Mario Kart to beat Titanfall's astounding work, since Mario Kart 8 is such a happily renowned series and they tend to do very well, but I think it will be interesting to look back on what was predicted in a few months time!
