They can. Whether they could make Wii Sports and Wii Fit is another debate.

I daresay X360 would have won the war.

The Wii itself, not necessarily Nintendo is why I disliked the Wii. I have almost no interest in 1st party games from either camp. A SONY Wii, a horribly underpowered console, with clunky (imo) motion controls as the primary input device. Third party multi-plat RPGs, the games that I buy, would be inferior to the versions on the X360. So I would not have bought heavily into a SONY Wii.

Likewise a Nintendo PS3 (sic) would probably have had the same problems the Nintendo Wii did. Almost zero RPGs. The Wii had Xenoblade chronicles, really what else? I doubt they would have had much more given Nintendos track record with 3rd party studios. Lack of good 3rd party RPGs, a complete lack of synergy with how Nintendo does things. So I would not have bought heavily into a Nintendo PS3.

Thus the choice would have been largly in X360s favor by default.

Keep in mind I ended up owning all three consoles. My PS3 library is significantly greater than the other two though.

As an owner of all 3, what % crossover do you think there was last gen?

My best guestimate is probably 1/4 or maybe even 1/3 Wii owners had a second console. I'm thinking it was split evenly between X360 and PS3. I think there are very few that had both X360 and PS3. Possibly 1-2% of all total gamers? Even less that had all 3.

This is all completely uninformed guessses. I have only anecdotal evidence. Almost all of my friends had two consoles, most were X360 and the Wii. A couple of them just had Wiis though.

Yep. Not everyone would think that, but it would be the general picture.

In terms of sales, it depends on whether Sony would get 3rd party support or not, same with Nintendo. It would also depend on whether or not Sony can make compelling motion games like Wii Sports. So it's hard to tell.

In the UK, I don't know anybody who continually played their HD console who didn't get the other HD console. They either stopped playing or bought the other one as well. Especially when the Wii was more expensive than 360.

Here, I think 1/4-1/2 of 360 owners went on to buy a PS3 or vice versa. Also the first time I've seen multiples of the same console (360s) in the same home, never known that.

Then Nintendo would be broke and Sony would have made alot more money.

Interesting stuff. I don't think ive ever seen multiple 360s in non-large family households. If a family has like 3-4 kids then yeah that can make sense.

It might be that maybe its not 1-2% but more like 33-50% gamers had both PS3 and X360. I'd love to know the true figure.

SONY fans would have had a conniption fit. Basically they would be releasing a completely out of character console. So they would be left with trying to get new people outside prev gen gamers to buy their system. SONY would not have made Wii Sports or Wii Party or most of that stuff that sold like hotcakes. Likewise Uncharted, Killzone, etc would have been _horrible_. RPGs would have been lackluster at best. It would have been a colossal failure.

Nintendo fans would also have had a conniption fit. Since when has a nintendo console cost 499/599 at release? Never.

Serious question.

Power and price being equal.

The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario, Arc Rise Fantasia, Fragile Dreams, Tales of Symphonia 2, and a few others.
