Forums - Gaming - Mario Kart 8 makes the Wii U the first must-have console

I think mario 3d world is the only must have title for the wiiu. you can play zelda ww on any pc. as much as nintendo fans talk about must have titles, the only games that selling great with out bundles are mario games.

It's all subjective.

I bought a WiiU for my kids. I have tried some of its games and tried to use it as a real console for myself. I couldn't do it. A majority of the games that appeal to me are games I have already played on other consoles. It's online offering is pretty laughable at best. The 3rd party support on it is just abysmal imho.

So even at $135 or whatever you priced it at after taking out all the free stuff, knowing what I know after owning it for 6 months, pass. Even if it were a crystal clear actual $135 retail. No.

Did you seriously compare a Dolphin WW to WWHD? Dolphin has trouble properly emulating the game, causing stupid sound glitches and missing textures.

WWHD is more beautiful in more ways than just resolution. The lighting, textures, bloom, native resolution, etc have all been completely revamped. Also, they made minor gameplay changes like the faster sail that make the game even better.

Have you ever even played WWHD?

i'm not comparing to wwhd on wiiu, i'm comparing it to the gamecube version, on pc you get a much version the gamecube version, and if you already played and beat the game,, your not missing nothing except better graphics and you can get 60fps easily on pc.

(In my opinion)

Mario Kart 8 is easily the best game in the franchise- the best graphics, the smoothest gameplay, the best online, the most variety in characters, courses, karts, etc. Not only that, but Nintendo has decided to give a game of equal value (if you choose either Pikmin 3 or WWHD), for absolutely free.

That's $60 for $120 worth of games that are all better than any other next-gen game currently available on other consoles by a landslide.

Not only that, but Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle knocks another $30 off the game price, and adds in a steering wheel and limited-edition controller that are worth $45 by themselves, if not more, for free.

That's essentially $330 for both the console and $165 of games/accessories.

You pretty much get the console (and the Deluxe version, at that) for $165. That's easily a better deal than the PS4 (at $400) or the Xbox One (at $400/$500), and this is coming from someone who owns both a Wii U and PS4.

If you love Mario Kart and Nintendo games in general, now is the time to get a Wii U. If you don't, you are missing out on the best value in gaming currently.

I respect your opinion but there are several PS4 games that I would take over MK8. (I own a Wii U but not MK8 yet)

Zelda U is what will get me really excited. I will absolutely buy MK8 eventually though

I have WWHD and I've also emulated WW on PC, at 1080p 60fps.

WW dosen't even compare. Raising the resolution and frame rate doesn't change the fact that WWHD is a completely remade game graphically, with new textures, effects, better native resolution of the game itself, etc. Plus it doesn't get bottlenecked by Dolphin in terms of sound.

Once again, simply raising the resolution of a game won't make up for texture detail, graphical effects, native resolution, gameplay changes, etc.

your missing my point, i was talking about the people that never played the gamecube version, its not worth buying a console for game you have already played.

Of course, WWHD alone isn't worth it. WWHD along with games like 3DW, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8 is.

I would still classify WWHD in a class above the original. It is really that beautiful.

WWHD cannot be counted along those games, as its not a new experiance , its just a more beautiful version.

I was actually somewhat impressed by MK8 until DF revealed that the game is only native 720p and still can't maintain a solid 60 through and through. The lies from the hype killed my interest in it, unfortunately.

I'm happy enough with my PS4. I might buy my first Wii-U title someday, but it won't be MK8 sadly... Here's to hoping ZeldaU does the job.
