Technically it was 'tongue in cheek' statement, we all know how great Messi is. Being the second best player in the world, just look at what he can do, what he has acheived. The joke stems from 2010 WC but then a lot of big names failed to show up in that tournament. Same joke applies to Rooney, who although having Englands all time goals scored, only scored 1 goal in a World Cup (plus failed to help England achieve anything).

I think he should be rated above Pele actually

Yes but below Maradona ;)

Around the Network

Only Pele and Maradona went on to win at international level.

Messi helped Argentina into the world cup... great, now watch as he, like the last 2 World Cups, does nothing. :P

Yeah man, player of the competition at the last world cup. What a scrub?!

That was extremely undeserved though.

PSG's President is under investigation for corruption.

Gordon Strachan has been sacked. Not sure what the Scottish FA expect to be honest. They are easily the worst 'home nation' side, no decent players to pick from. The fact they did okay is something.

Hmm, pie.

Fox spent $400 million dollars for the exclusive rights to broadcast the english version of the World Cup 2018 and 2022 in the US.

In other words. They spend $200 million to broadcast the world cup in the USA and the deal was done before the USA actually qualified and we all now know they haven't.

Man I'd be sweating..

heh, no doubt that's going to cost their TV ratings quite a bit! And to think, they were pissed that the 2022 World Cup would be moved to November/December, that can't be as bad for ratings as the US not even being in it

Edit: You specifically say the English version? Does that mean somebody else will be broadcasting it in US for Spanish language viewers? Even worse the Fox's ratings!

It's the first time USA have missed a world cup since 1986 so I can see why they thought it was a safe bet but mannn that's gotta hurttt garantee millions of casuals would've tuned in to watch the USA who probably could've made it out of the groups

Can't read due to my adblock but I assume he says they discussed that after Peru scored? nothing wrong with that, not like it would be the first time something similar happens.
