Any particular reason? Do they have some exciting young players that could make an impact? Or are you Indian yourself?

I'm  Indian and it's the first time we've got such a huge opportunity, so hoping we do well

Don't really give a shit about youth football tbh, at the end its all about having a few players making the 1st team, not the results. As long as each youth team has 2 or 3 talents capable of reaching the 1st team the results of the teams themselves are irrelevant to me.

Indeed but do you think they can set them up just for one guy when they may only train together for a few weeks a year? When some of those players are world class and think "Why aren't they setting this up for me?"

Argentina seem to currently be the Belgium of South America, superb individual players but yet to play as a team, their own individual skill has carried the team through.

Well Portugal have done a pretty good job setting up their team around Ronaldo, and while the rest of their team may not be on Argentina's level he's still far from the only really good player there.

And there's nothing stopping them from being a great team with superb individual players. Brazil and Germany usually manage that pretty well.

As for Belgium so far they've looked much better this qualifying campaign than they have before and I think a big part of that is Martinez as their new manager. So Argentina really need to stop hiring people like Maradona and Martino and hire someone who can actually manage

Edit: Actually, Carlo Ancelotti is currently available and from what I've seen he's not only done a great job for a variety of different teams but he may even be a tad underrated, so perhaps Argentina should look in to him...

I doubt they can pay his wages, argentina's federation has been a disaster lately. Anyway, excluding Maradona I don't think they've had particularily bad coaches.

Hell, Sampaoli may be a disgusting human being but he made us (chile) play really good football and he got great results. Bauza was doing great with his team before the NT, and Martino while he failed with barca was far from Maradona level.

Also, I think them and Brazilians always have coaches that share their nationality, so I doubt they would go with Ancelotti

Yeah. For example, very few players of the Mexican team that won U-17 World Cup are in the major team now, and almost no one has a remarkable career, maybe Héctor Moreno, but that's it. It's even worse with the team that won the 2011 tournament, a lot of players got stuck in the Mexican Second Division, unfortunately.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Yeah. We won the Euro under 21 in 2006 and 2007, besides Huntelaar no player went on to have a big career. Some players had decent careers but nothing World Class.

I think the senior World Cup would be more exciting if Mexico or the African teams were contenders like they are in youth tournaments.

I do wonder why people expect Argentina to do great things just because they have Messi. At Barcelona it's a team setup for him. Argentina isn't, these players are good in their own right, it's not Messi's team. Chile on the other hand play as a team, while is why they are better.

Well then the obvious question is... why isn't the team set up for Messi? Or even if not specifically for him then at least to get the most out of the players they do have? On paper they have a fantastic team even without Messi, so it seems fair to expect a lot from them.

That's an extreme double edge sword at international level, if Messi has bad form or the opponents shut him down the team is effectively beaten Portugal are an example of this with Ronaldo although the latter is a lot more consistent at international level than Messi. Also at WCs and such people are more aware of the big names and rally together to contain them and a lot of the time succeed which is also a key reason many players who are lesser known emerge at tournaments to become stars setting up a team for one player lessens that happening.
