Forums - General Discussion - Your own personal oscars

The oscars are this sunday. To be honest, while I think most of the movies are justly nominated, I think the ceremony itself is crap. There is no reason any award show should break two hours.

Anyway, that aside, assuming there are few, if any, professional or amateur movie critics here (ie: people who had the chance to see 150+ of the films released in 2007), what do you think were the best 5 movies of the year based on what you had the chance to see? Also, of those 5, which would you say is the overall best?

For me:
1. no country for old men (winner)
2. juno
3. superbad
4. before the devil knows you're dead
5. ratatouille

Around the Network

1.Death Proof
2. American Gangster
3. The Man from Earth
4. Grindhouse
5. Ratatouille

I still need to see The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Atonement, Michael Clayton, American Gangster, Persepolis, and a few others.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

1. Superbad

In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird.
Now the world is weird  and people take Prozac  to make it normal.

“If any creator has not played Mario, then they’re probably not a good creator. That’s something I can say with 100 percent confidence. Mario is, for game creators, the development bible.
