Forums - Sony - Uncharted's budget was...

Well heres some useful info :

The software available for any console is crucial to its success. According to a report on the Bloomberg news service, developers may be thinking carefully about making games for the PlayStation 3 because of the number of sales required to put the projects in the black. Namco Bandai Holdings Inc. president Takeo Takasu has said in an interview that PS3 games must be a mass-market success. Games for the next-generation console cost an average of $8.6 million to create .

So ,8.6 million for a PS3 game .Then we have Killzone 2 with its 21 million budget of course .

I think Uncharted costed 10-12 million and it was marketed with some 8 million .Its marketing was far less apparent than Gears one year before .

@ phil

ROFL yes. Glad to see another Del fan.

"Del, advancing, dancing over beats
Romancing microphones with my glorious speech
No shorts like BVD, I'm next like DVD
I hit the metropolitan with music I be modeling"

I am WEEzY. You can suck my Nintendo loving BALLS!

Where did you find that diomedes? I find it hard to believe that the average cost of a PS2 game was less than 1 mil. Unless the games they all chose were sudoku games.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Take in count too that in Europe these games are being sold at 69 euros ....some 105 dollars each one !!So lots of profit there .

He said Bloomberg, but I can't find it if so.

Redsteel couldnt have cost more than 2 million to make. talk about piece of shit
Red Steel isn't a piece of shit. It had potential but suffered poor controls, in my opinion. It represents an admirable first try.

Isn't control supposed to be the thing that sets the wii apart? It also killed LAIR. If the controls don't do what you tell it,WTF good is it?!? It's a video game reacts on input. If it can't translate that input into a believable solution... it gets old real quick!

Controls aren't all that matter to gameplay.  And poor controls do not necessarily imply a piece of shit.  The controls did make the game mediocre or less, but I think with improved controls, which Ubisoft will undoubtedly deliver in the sequel, would make Red Steel a good game.

KZ2's budget was 21 million Euros, which equates to over $40 million.  And that number is almost a year old by now.

Once again, you're trying to use 1 data point to generalize across a very wide spectrum of games ...

The "Average" price a lot of these developers cite include their licenced low budget games which are often shovelware. Take 2's average would include games like Dora the Explorer, Celebrity Death Match, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Grand Theft Auto 4; if they came to an average of $10 Million across all these games it is far more likely that GTA would take $30 Million with the other four splitting $10 Million.

For the European Union. Thanks to the VAT. I'd like a link to that article... still waiting for that link to the article about Medicreate having 90% of stores info.

Other developers have suggested it costs much more.

Well ,I did some google searchs with the words development ,budget and the name of one console and found lots of things .Few had a lot of numbers to compare sadly .The Playstation 2 number is an average with no less that 194 games so I think its quite accurate .
