Forums - Nintendo - PDP Partners With Nintendo To Release Gamecube Controller-Inspired Pad For Wii U In Time For Smash Bros

Why didn't they do this when Wii was new and hot. Would have made sense. Granted, I know Nintendo kept wired gamecube controllers on the market for a while, but those connected to the ports on the console, not the wiimote.

I think you answered your own question, with the Wii having GC controller ports the number of people looking for a version that you could plug into your Wiimote was very limited but now since the Wii U doesn't support the GC controller at all the demand is much higher.

I don't know. Being tethered to your console sucks. I know I was able to sell my four wavebirds for premium cash (~$30 ea) on eBay even though those wired controllers were only $10 in stores.

I think one that plugged into wiimote would have done well sold at same $10 price point. Maybe Nintendo wouldn't license it.

I am one confused noggin. It's wired? Is it going to be usable, similar to the pro controller, with many games or will it be game specific? I would be delighted if it was just like the gamecube controller, smoother surface and available in different character themes. A tear would roll from the corner of my eye as I hand my child a gamecube controller to play on a current gen console. ;'( oh jeez, getting all soppy now.

I never understood why everyone says the GC controller is better for Smash. It's absolutely uncomfortable, I hate it.

everycontroller is uncomfortable with bear hands...

Do you have the right to Bear arms?

Some of the best news for the game yet, the GC controller is one of my all time favourites.

"plugs directly into the Wii Remote External Extension Connector"

This is still a thing? I thought Nintendo ditched this shitty design and controllers all connected direct to WiiU wirelessly..

This ^...anyone?

Very interesting. I already bought two Pro Controllers for Smash but I could always use more :)

I'll definitely be on the lookout for this.

Wii U truly is GameCube 2.0.
