Forums - Gaming - Will Sony's PlayStation 4 Be a Bigger Flop Than Nintendo's Wii U in Japan?

It was a bad idea to release it without Japanese game support, and after the holiday season on top of that. It's only natural that it would go into a sales slump. Honestly, the Japan PS4 launch was handled quite poorly.

Once big names like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Metal Gear get into the action, among other third party developers, expect major growth. Xbox is a nonfactor in Japan, and the Wii U is mostly ignored by developers, so these games are effectively exclusive.

Japan developers can't profit off the Playstation 4 alone.

It will catch the Wii U soon enough. There will be enough support for it in the near future and if the PS3 is any indication it will be supported for some time.

Wat is soon enough??? Cuz i kno its definitely not soon enough looking at the numbers and schedule right now.

Was just about to make a thread for it.

How does 2016 sound? that's half of the gen for PS4.

Thats soon enough?

Not saying it wont pass but your definition of Soon Enough needs some fixing :P

It's soon enough for me :P

I'm optimistic but I'm not delusional like other people.

Fair enough, Your post made it sound like this year. Anywayz Japan is Doomed! This gen will even be lower than Gamecube/PS2 gen :(

Tell that to the many developers who have been doing so on Vita.

They aren't on PS4 "alone" anyway. :p

Final Fantasy,Kindoms Heart,Metal Gear Solid sold the most in console and as long as those games are on ps4 it can't fail

You sound like a Wii U owner. The PS4 is already a failure there.

Kingdom Hearts sold less than 1m in Japan. The PS4 won't outsell the PS3 in japan. That won't "save" the PS4.

Final Fantasy 13 sold 2 million on the PS3. The PS4 won't outsell the PS3 in Japan. That won't "save" the PS4.

Metal Gear Solid 4 sold less than 1m in Japan. The PS4 won't outsell the PS3 in japan. That won't "save" the PS4.

NSMBU has outsold both Kingdom Hearts and MGS4 in Japan for perspective. Wii Party U has sold only 100k less than those two in Japan for perspective. FFXV, KH3, and MGS5 will, without a shadow of a doubt, do worse on the PS4 in Japan than any of their predisessors, because the PS4 itself is tracking far behind all of its predisessors.

The PS4 won't bounce back. Those games will slightly boost sales temperily. That's obvious. The PS4 will continue to fail there, though. Just be glad it isn't failing everywhere, like the Wii U is.

Japan doesn't care about Mario Kart either. MK Wii may have sold nearly 4m there, but the Wii U is tracking far behind the Wii. A more accurate comparison is MK DD, which sold less than 1m there. SSBM sold just over 1m there. Those games won't save the Wii U in Japan either.

Console gaming is dead there. That includes the PS4 and the Wii U.

I still doubt that the PS4 will flop in japan ...

...

It already is a flop in Japan.

8,000 units sold last week. That's only 900 units more than the Wii U. It's a flop.

3DS & Wii U have Japan on lock. PS4 already fell of a cliff there.

No. No the Wii U doesn't.

How do you expect PS4 to sell when there are no games meant only for PS4 that Japan wants yet and its been only 3 months where Wii U has been there for 18 months of time and more games only can be played in Wii U, but still PS4 sold more than Wii U by 900 units?

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

At the end of the day the PS4 will get a lot of japanese third party support, things like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Kingdom Hearts, Yakuza, Tales of, Persona, Gundam, Dynasty Warriors, Resident Evil, various Musou games, etc, I think all those games will make sure that the PS4 won't be a flop in the future and if you look at the support the PS3 is getting this late on its life, it's sure that the PS4 will get support even late on its life.

The Wii U will outsell the PS4 there as soon as MK8 hits. It'll be a small boost, but it doesn't need a big one to outsell it there. The PS4 is outselling the Wii U because it's still a fresh product there. It's been declining faster than the Wii U.
