Forums - Gaming - Two Days in, Kinect-less Xbox One’s Pre-Orders Aren’t Exactly Selling Like Hotcakes.

Fact is, it would need to be substantially cheaper than PS4 to make a dent and overcome its lasting negative press. Same reason why Wii U even after all the awesome games of holidays 2013 (and upcoming MK8) still won't rebound to massive success. The negative press in the beginning and the collective thought of "doomed" simply outweigh all else.

True, but consumers have short term memory overall. These console generations last many years, and I am sure you will see some $350 specials this holiday season for the Xbox (and maybe the PS4) as well.

Give it time, only the forum dwellers know about this. Let the word of mouth trickle into the average gamers attention. You know, gamers who don't need to feed their habit of anonymous validation online :)

Furthermore....why preorder when you could just, I don't know, walk in to a store any buy it June 9?

That's just not true. When it was announced, "Kinect" was a worldwide trending topic on Twitter. Meaning millions of people were talking about it. If you were interested in getting an XBone and just googled "Xbox One", everything on the first two pages was about the Kinect-less XBone. On Facebook, in the top right corner (under where you get notified for events and birthdays) had "Xbox One" as a worldwide trending topic as well, and Facebook has more users than Twitter.

Not all gaming news is limited to the "forum goer" audience. On social media, you need millions upon millions of mentions of that topic to be trending. The fact that "Kinect" and "Xbox One" were mentioned by several millions of people when the Kinect-less XBone was announced means that more than the "forum dwellers" know about it. It's safe to say average gamers know about it. Unless you think "forum goers" make up all of social media

Nm, just not into the whole social media thing outside facebook. That said, I feel there really is no incentive to preorder it. No pack in, no retailer specific deals.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Guys not every console is another PS4, don't critisize so much.

Why would anyone preorder it? You will be able to just go out and buy the damn thing June 9. There will be no shortages. Regardless nothing is going to change till after E3 and most likely not until fall when holiday sales kick in and games worth playing are actually released. It will sell very well this holiday. I expect it to outsell PS4 in NA.

What is this based on besides 360s success in US?

The general public doesn't know about it yet. The average consumer doesn't come to these websites and just hasn't heard about it yet. It will make a difference. I don't expect it to completely match or surpass the ps4 sales, but I think it will be close. People want to decide for themselves if they want a peripheral, I wasn't going to buy an x1 until it was either: cheap enough that I wouldn't notice the kinect, or: until the kinect was removed from the box and sold seperately. Now that I don't HAVE to buy one with kinect, I will be getting one in June. And you know what? I'm not preordering one either.

Mark my words, it will start selling noticeably better. Preorders be damned.

Sales won't show a significant bump until 360 owners are no longer satisfied.

Proof that gamers want Kinect! Thanks Gribble!

The xbox is definitely more valuable with it than with out it. Personally, I think it was a very dumb move on their part overall in terms of PR and vision. Makes it seem like they don't have faith in their product nor have any true vision for the product. I was hoping to see some developer do something risky, unique, and awesome with the device, but now that is less likely. However, I don't really see body motion as a compelling gaming feature as much as Wii mote and PS move... Even still the UI seemed to greatly benefit from it and that alone could have been a better selling point if properly advertised / marketed. Though that last piece is probably why gamer's at large didn't feel the need for it?

Honestly, if they were selling Xone with Titanfall for $50 more, why not cut the disc drive and market it as a digital console in their primary markets. Offer some vouchers for MS video or something along those line. Would have been better PR and strategy long term.

I will permaban myself if the game releases in 2014.

in reference to KH3 release date

Is there really a reason to pre-order after 2 days of being announced? Pretty sure they aren't having any supply problems. People are probably waiting for E3 to see if MS is gonna announce another alternative.

I hope for MS' sake that they have big guns ready for E3. Things are at least pointing to that.

Yep.

Why would anyone pre-order when its a worse deal than the deals they did a few weeks back. It's very problematic for MS, with the stores reducing the price of the bundle straight after Titanfall because of stock build up, people are now looking at this and thinking - yeah you removed kinect but I'm not getting a better deal.

I think people were hoping for Kinect removal and a price slightly lower than PS4 (or at least parity), but because of those other deals, its kind of ruined it a bit.

Also as others have said, no need to pre-order unless stock is going to be difficult to get from a shop... which is unlikely.
