Forums - Gaming - NPD shares their definition of hardcore gamers (34 million in US) - Nintendo platforms/gamers excluded, 22 hours weekly average

Can Nintendo gamers be considered hardcore?

Yes, of course 114 57.00%

No 34 17.00%

NPD's definition is meaningless regardless 49 24.50%

Total:197

LMAO! For those of you who said no in the survey, how about you go play DK Tropical Freeze, have your ass handed to you a few times (latter stages) and then try and tell me that Nintendo gamers are not core gamers.

Something is not quite right here:
According to wikipedia there are roughly 2 million men in each age-group. If all the men between 15 and 32 were “core gamers” that would be 34 million core gamers!
If only half of the men were “core gamers” it would be half of all men between 15 and 50!

wow... even NPD disses Nintendo. Must be because Nintendo doesn't pay for their service.

Why would they need NPD when NoA has their own realtime tracking service?

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

This is so embarrassing. The terminology is lousy, the definition is lousy, and the fact that NPD would canonize the term "core gamer" is lousiest of all.

According to VGChartz data these 34 million "core gamers" bought about 40 million X360 games in 2013 and about 31 million PS4 games in 2013.
So these "core gamers" play one X360 game and one PS4 game for 22 hours a week for the whole year?

What is SIRAS? Does Nintendo own it? Tell me more!

Nintendo of America owns it, apparently, and they appear to have some sort of point-of-sale tracking voodoo going on, which also appears to be available to anyone who wants to subscribe to the service. I dug up a PDF here which mentions Sony as a customer, but this thing is 8 years old, so don't kill me. I'm as drunk as a lord right now, and all the aspirational managementspeek on that site is hurting me.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

I tend to tap out at about 6-8 hours a week nowadays. Usually never more than 10 or so unless i *really* get into a good groove.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I always knew I was a filthy casual, my bullet hell and my classic Nintendo games just didn't cut it.

I am not a core gamer then? Thank god! I dread to be associated with those filthy people.
