Forums - Gaming Discussion - GDC: Unreal Engine 3 Improvements Vid

Improvements:

Ambient Occlusion: Post Processing Filter
Allows adding much more realistic dynamic shadows to scenes.

Advanced Character Lighting
Much greater contrast, much greater specular lighting, and much more detail on characters can be seen.

High Density Crowds
In video it shows over 100 locusts running around.

Dynamic Fluid Surfaces
Can you say wow at the water? Video of it is amazing. Realistic water physics simulation, realistic specular and environment reflections bouncing off the water, more dynamic interaction with water, sound effects, splashes, etc.

Matinee Improvements
Used for in-game Cinematics, interesting tool.

Soft Body Physics
Realistic interaction with soft bodies. Video shows a cube of meat, an elastic watery substance. Very organic.

Destructible Environments
Real-time structure analysis tools to make destruction realistic. Looks good.

So I guess they are using this in Geow2?

I wonder if this was in place by the time they did Unreal Tournament 3.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Interesting. Would be crazy if they used that for GeoW2 :O

P.S. When will he have info on the Wii UE3?

They aren't even making it, a third-party is, so you might not here it from them.  Epic thinks the Wii is a waste of time.

Nice! The engine looks like it's added more than enough to make it worthy of a .5 :D
