So my fiance and I were discussing the book we’re reading currently and the movie we just saw last night (Divergent) and we realized that the Divergent series takes place in futuristic Chicago (cut off from the outside world that apparently is "destroyed"), The Giver takes place in futuristic unknown location (though it's clearly not in any big city based on the description of the land) and is also cut off from the rest of the world due to some major event, and The Hunger Games takes place in futuristic Northeast U.S. or Canada (once again, cut off from the rest of the world and thinking everyone else is dead). My point here is that it would be incredibly easy to make all three of these book series take place in the same universe. And that’s not IT!
What exactly was this catastrophic disaster that occurred so long ago that made these little communities pop up, cut off from the outside world, and assuming they are the only ones left?
I have a theory. In the 1990’s, an invisible war was brewing in the world that people weren’t even aware of. The forces of magic were fighting against one another. In the end, Voldemort was destroyed. All seemed well, or so everyone thought. What people did not know was that there was a girl who loved Tom Riddle even after he went evil. A girl who was already being fought over by two boys (one, a vampire, and one, a werewolf). That’s right, Bella loved Tom Riddle. How this connects is when Voldemort appeared to kill him he actually wasn’t successful because Fenrir Greyback bit him before his body died (making him appear to be dead but actually only hibernating, if you will). After this, Edward changed his name and moved to America only to fall in love with Bella (who was already secretly in love with Tom Riddle). Bella appeared to love Edward (who was both a vampire and a werewolf by now) and the regular tan werewolf guy but only because it was both of their connection to the world of magic that appealed to her (where she knew Voldemort was at).
When Voldemort was destroyed (and all seemed well) she felt it in her heart and she, with the rage of her newfound vampire powers, let out an onslaught upon the world. Then, Harry Potter and the Aurors had to come to America to fight the joint legion of Vampires/Werewolves that had sided with Bella (the new Dark Lord). It was in this massive battle that America was destroyed. In the end, Bella was destroyed, and the magical world sealed off America from the rest of the world so that it could recover (at it’s own pace). And now, years later, the events of Divergent, Hunger games, and The Giver are all occurring.
