Forums - Gaming - Wii U vs. Wii vs. GC: A sales comparison

Some interesting graphs I found at Game Informer.

Pictures the tragic situation Nintendo is going through with the WiiU and puts into perspective how steepl the 3DS drop is in comparison to previous gens.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

a truly interesting display of data. My take away from these graphs is that the Dual screen and Wiimote were literally game changers, thus had a strong impact on the market. The Gamepad and 3D dual screen are not as special to their predecessor.

I do hope the 3ds makes it at least half way to the DS before it gets discontinued... I know its impossible to catch up to the DS but come on, half way at least please!!

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

That is really a sad development (or underdevelopment).

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

To keep in mind, DS had been through 4 Christmases in the West in these comparisons whereas 3DS and GBA had only been through three.
Doesn't make a big big difference but launching in November vs. March can make lining them up troublesome.

3DS isn't as far behind GBA hardware right now as I thought. Makes my forecast of lifetime 72 million reasonable. Software should pass GBA at least I hope

The WiiU software is just sad... :(

Woah woah 3ds is tracking behind GBA? That surprised me, but kinda expected...

Very interesting, it seems the Wii U is tracking below the GC. It will be lucky to hit 15 Million lifetime. Nintendo really needs to reconsider their next gen system. A handheld hybrid console doesn't sound like a bad idea at all.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

The 3DS is my favorite Nintendo handheld, sad to see it's tracking behind the others but it's not that far from the GBA and the DS was a monster.

I really do wonder how much will the Wii U sell in its lifetime. The answer is getting harder to predict every time we get new info.

Down across the board in both hardware and software, despite a home console with a year of no next-gen competition, and a handheld whose competitor really isn't putting up a fight...

Ouch :/

I don't care much for the WiiU, but it's sad to see the 3DS slipping. I've have, and still am, heavily enjoying mine :c
