The "Mainstream music" thread and the discussion of rap reminded me of this man. His name is Saul Williams. He's an incredibly talented musician/poet.

 Listen to this

And then check out some of his music on youtube.

Nothing gets passed you my friend.

He took several parts of that poem and used them to make the song The Tao of Now.

Here it is!

Wow, the poem was great. The song was okay. I'm not big on rap as much as pure poetry, though his is certainly at least better than most due to his more intellectual lyrics.

He's an interesting person. He's very spiritual, but strongly rejects organized religion in favor of philosophy and science (similar to my own beliefs). It's reflected in his poetry and style.

What I want to know is what in the hell reminded him of that poem??? At the beginning he was talking about how something inspired him to remember the poem and it seemed more to me like he was trying to find a reason to recite the poem he spent like 8 weeks memorizing =P

With that said it was a good poem although a bit longer than I like =P But I wasn't too fond of the song...but like Naz I'm not a huge rap fan...I like some stuff but not a lot.

Edit: Oh and he definitely has talent...just not my cup of tea.

I'm not sure if I just don't have the mind for poetry but does it take other people awhile to understand poems like this?  I listened to what he said twice and still I'm not exactly sure what he's talking about.  I would have to have it in written form and even after reading it many times I'd still have questions about many verses. :(

@ naz and sqrl, I don't like rap either. But I love Saul's stuff.

In fact he doesn't seem to think much of most rap either. Try this one
