Forums - Gaming - Why i was disappointed by MK8's graphics.

Sorry, but saying MK8 isn't graphically impressive, for any hardware, is rather silly. No one should want nor expect a photo-realistic MK game. And the fact that they have it looking like it does, running at 1080 with 60fps? I really don't see any room for complaint, from anyone, about how it looks. Like you said, it's one of the best looking 8th gen games so far, on ANY hardware, period. I think Wii U can and will still produce even better looking games. But MK8 looks pretty goddamn impressive as far as I'm concerned.

Remember that whoever you talk to is just one sector of one sector of people

i.e. what someone sees Nintendo or Sony or MS fans say is not necessarily an accurate reflection of what the bulk of those fans actually think

A lot of people are more vocal than others

A lot of people don't actually give a shit and just don't say anything because they don't want to be caught up in all the drama and stupidity

Like, if someone is smart enough to know not to greatly hate on any one console type due to pointless shit when how much fun people have while playing games is what really matters (and differs from person to person), they're probably also smart enough to not bother trying to convince others NOT to hate, because they know how futile it is to try to stop people from hating: people are going to do what they want and some people just find it entertaining to hate on stuff (or it just makes them feel better about their own preferences or whatever)

In short, I think you might be overreacting and jumping to conclusions

I'm sure plenty of people still feel that MK8 is good graphically due to its art direction/style

and there also the people who just want to argue and will say whatever is convenient: if people think MK8 is really good in terms of raw graphical display, then they will use that to their advantage in arguing for the Wii U or whatever, but if that weren't the case, then they would ignore that aspect and argue something else that is in their favor instead. it's sort of basic childish arguing and paying attention to those people is kind of a waste of time because it doesn't matter what system they're supporting, they're all kinda hopeless >_>;

I mean, I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I think the Wii U is awesome (I have over 20 games for it which is more than any other system except for my 3DS... and I have 3 3DS's, just to put into perspective how much of a 3DS fan I am, and I have games for pretty much every other console except for the PS4, to put THAT into perspective) but I haven't lost my sanity enough to not see things objectively and notice the Wii U's and even the 3DS's and Nintendo's in general's flaws

(that being said I could probably point out a lot of flaws in the other companies and their consoles, Nintendo just happens to be the center of hate right now for various reasons...)

Running at 720 vs 1080 has absolutely no impact on how much I will enjoy this game. The trailers look amazing and have great detail. I will be looking out for blue shells and not at detailed texture.

It is 1080p. 1080p vs 720p makes a huge difference that is why Nintendo made sure it was 1080p...

That hasn't really been confirmed either way just yet, unless you mean upscaled 1080p since that's what it'll be at the very least. Also, seeing as they went for native 720p/60fps instead of native 1080p/30fps for SM3DW, Pikmin 3, etc., they probably feel that framerate makes a bigger difference and I definitely agree with how they've been going about it. Though regardless of that, the guy you quoted's point was simply that it makes no difference to him.

This is much better looking than every Drive club pic ever ;)

I agree that fps is more important that resolution. MK Wii ran at 60 fps in single player and 30 fps in split screen and the difference was drastic.

PS4 owner here (loving it so far and can't wait for more games). I have to say I envy Nintendo gamers solely for this game. My gf and I have seriously contemplated buying the Wii U for it, because Mario Kart is that awesome.

But on topic, this games' graphics rock. Sure the visual fidelity isn't the same as a PS4 game (can't argue with the jagginess and lack of textures in the MK vs DC comparison), but the art style is there to impress. Just think, to most casual gamers, PS4 and PS3 games (of course, I am talking about the multiplats which will likely persist due to the financial gains of developers) barely look different. So of course a Wii U game can still impress!

I'll say! I remember going to a friends house one time where we were playing MK7 initially, then we starting playing MKWii 4-player and I was like "wow how does this game look so much worse than MK7!?" xD

Because smaller screen; blow MK7 up on a HDTV, and at 240x400 it would look like fried arse haha.

Or because of the framerate like I just said! Besides, his TV was only a 20incher or so, and I of course was a farther distance away from it than I would be from me 3DS.

On the smaller screens of 4 player splitscreen I personally find framerate much less noticeable. 2 player is still 60fps thankfully.

Single screen to single screen both run at 60fps, except that the Wii one runs at 3.2 times higher resolution.
