I brought this game brand new and still haven't played it... I probably should at some point :)

what chapter did you get to? if you're needing checkpoints you should try and play with a friend. It can make the game a lot easier.

that's too bad, it's a great game for coop, that and you would have 2 very different gameplay options. I was able to help my sister who isn't that great at gaming do much better than she would have on her own.

The co-op is pretty neat. I've been playing through with my wife, and it helps having a partner in crime to get all the heads and gems while you're busy fighting the bad guys and making jumps. Unfortunately, co-op doesn't erase the major problems of the game :(

The conclusion that game does most things right except the "game" part would be quite accurate. I was quite looking forward to it since the first time they announced it. The art style looked amazing and it had a lot of charm. At least it delievered on those fronts. The biggest problem with the game was they had a story to tell and they would do that any cost. They would interrupt you every few seconds (it felt like that) and ramble about something on and on. The sidekick Pikarina while initially cute, gets way too annoying. There is insane amount of dialogue in this game and it is not just an overkill for a platformer but most other games. The gameplay mechanics pertaining to platforming are not too refined either, although i think the "scissor" was done okay for the most part. I quite liked some of the level specific characters you meet. Their back story which reads like a dark fairy tale can also be found in the unlockables section. The boss fights were not too bad either. I remember enjoying fighting the dragon and snake. I did have fun in parts while playing the game. On the whole, it was quite underwhelming and couldn't deliver on a promise of a well rounded game. Would i recommend it? Maybe, it really depends on your tastes. If you prefer Nintendo kind of platformers, i'd say steer away from this one. I mean there was a fellow vgc member who proclaimed this to be his game of the generation, while he gave NSMBU a 4/10 (which i think is top tier platformer). Here i found the thread. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=176274&page=0#-9 Although i mentioned in that thread that he seems quite impressionable and has a "knack" for games that most would find average at best. Different things for different people. Peace out. |
When did I give NSMBU a 4/10?

Yeah I guess that can't change your view if you don't like the gameplay or amount of gameplay to cut scenes.
It took me a while to think of jumping differently, since if you just want to do a jump you'll miss if you think most other platformers, but you can get quite a ways further than rappid cutting than you would think.
While with the cut scenes I just lovered trying to find all the little ones that can easily be missed.

My apologies for the lack of updates...I was unavailable last week.
On a personal note, I finished Act 4 last night. The final chapter reminded me a little of Guacamelee :)
I'm still experiencing the same problems, unfortunately: shallow, repetitive gameplay and overlong cut-scenes. The boss battles are still enjoyable, though.
Planning to beat the game this week, since we're halfway through June :P

Beat Act 6 last night. The game is definitely getting better. I think my favorite chapter was the final one in Act 5 and the end of Act 6 had a really good boss battle.
One more Act to go!
P.S. If anyone wants to share their final impressions or user scores, please do so. And don't forget to visit Akiran's new thread: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=184116&page=1#
