Yeah its very possible in China. Also when you figure in the restrictions, the open Android system that allows side loading of apps means they can easily get around the countries policies.

As for the price discussion. Some of you don't realize how much mark-up is in a phone.

There's a reason Google can sell a Nexus phone for $300 or $350 with specs that equal or exceed a $600 iPhone/Galaxy S/HTC One/etc.

Hint, its because others put very high mark-ups for selves/retailers. Also why Verizon won't carry Nexus devices; that and they have no control over bloatware.

Maybe so, but I doubt traditional consoles will be able to make much of a push with them being out of the price range for 90% of the population. And even then, China is not a big buyer of upper-end mobile electronics, seeing as that phones like the iPhone are being crushed by the lower-end Android competition. 

China is so vast and varied that both should do at least decently, now that Chines govt. removed the prohibitions (leaving in place just the censorship that applies to the other media anyway).

Consoles are simply too expensive to be appealing to a chinese gamer. Micro consoles are very low quality as evidenced by sales so that's also a no go for chinese gamers as they too have standards. As for the WII U It'll probably be regarded in the same way as the microconsoles. The steambox doesn't have a chance in hell at succeeding either and the chinese gamers will probably see it as another ouya. 

What will work is low end PCs or a 300$ PS4/X1 provided that the games are priced at a maximum of 40$ and ideally 30$. What I really see taking off in China is portables and that especially goes for the 3DS as these platforms have cheaper games and can potentially offer much higher quality experiences than smartphones as they have tactile feedback such as the controls to differentiate themselves but what will be required for this to work is that the games for them need to be priced at 20$. 

Note: Don't go about nagging that I'm trolling on the WII U seeing as how it is getting massively rejected by the market so this only further proves my point why the chinese gamers will "regard the WII U in the same way like a microconsole". 

i would bet on wii, if nintendo invests heavy, and for a good price.
