Forums - Gaming - Titanfall exclusivity proved to be (quite) pointless

Indeed and I'm honestly very glad it failed to do what MS wanted. I'm also glad EA ended up screwed over on what would have no doubt been higher PS4 sales. Hopefully it sends a message that BS money batted exclusives won't fly.

It was not pointless, the X1 would be dead without it.

I'm really looking forward to April NPD since i think VGChartz is underestimating the X360 version. X360 hardware even dropped to just 20k in the U.S. in the last weeks numbers.

So you mean OVERestimating.

No underestimating, X360 hardware is also clearly undertracked. No way Titanfall did nothing to boost x360 numbers when it launched and a week later dropped by 30%.

Enough people are not going to buy a $500 console if a game is available on a $150/$200 console instead. The 360 also has a huge install base and especially a online game like Titanfall should still do really well. I wouldn't be surprised if VGChartz will actually have the 360 version lower than the Xbox One version, witch seems really unlikely to me.

The 360 version breing delayed for a few weeks was no coincidence either.

Player Haters Club would be proud of some VGC members.
Titanfall was/is mostly talked about by people that don't have X1 or don't like the genre and are frequently on game forums.
More threads are created to bash it than praised/hype it.
For example, Infamous SS is not even talked about anymore. It was hyped to "wazoo" but after the second week it went radio silence.
Titanfall on X1 and X360 is close to 2 million Xbox live subscription renewal or acquirement. Plus console shift, plus game sales.
The tie in ratio for a 4 million sold console is even more amazing considering this is a new IP.

I bet you don't care that Sony moneyhatted Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls.

Except they didn't. They funded those two games similar to how MS funded DR3/SO/QB or Nintendo funded Bayonetta 2. Those are the good kinda of exclusives

"In order to make the economics work and keep Titanfall alive, EA needed a first-party publisher to invest. Xbox was willing to step up and save the project, which turned out to be a wise bet."- quoted off of Final Hours of Titanfall by Geoff.

If you know better than Geoff Keighley, show me that MS moneyhatted Titanfall.

You realize Respawn was out of money and MS helped to fund them so they didn't need to sell the IP to EA, yes? Try reading up on The Final Hours of Titanfall. Not only is it a great read and a good insight in the industry, but it will help you not make more foolish looking mistakes like this.

If MS moneyhatted Titanfall then Sony moneyhatts 90% of their exclusives.

Titanfall got development money, Azure servers, advertising money, plus a controller designed for the game.

Which Sony exclusive got all of that together?

It's funny that somehow a game that's been hyped up the wazoo since last year all the way up to launch date by both MS & EA has remained relatively quiet since post launch date.  Since when did MS & EA ever NOT brag about numbers and sales?  For MS, if it was a system seller as they believed, you wouldn't be able to stop them or the media about how much this "exlusivity" paid off for MS 1 week after release..  Likewise, EA would be touting that they have this awesome COD killer on their hands.  Exactly how long did it take MS to talk about "fastest selling system.." "selling over 1 mil in 24 hrs".. etc, etc.. and yet they are super secret about how well titanfall did for their system almost 2 months since launch (XB1)?  Same thing with EA.. how long before they started saying "8th generation, EA sells most titles.." etc. and now it's.. crickets.. crickets?!  Seems to me the numbers weren't so great.. hence the silent treatment from both companies surrounding actual HW & SW sales figures.  And onto your point.. Sony can make an announcement about Infamous because maybe it met their expectations from a sales point?  You don't think EA and MS would not do the same if Titanfall had met theirs?

Spin it all you want, but from MS standpoint.. paying for titanfall exclusivity and still not beating Sony in March = MS FLOP.  EA betting on Titanfall exclusivity with MS this gen = EA FLOP.

Looks like a duck.. smells like a duck.. quacks like a duck.. hey it must be a duck!?!  OMG..

Why do people keep dragging MS into this sales number hush hush conspiracy nonsense? I can see EA or Respawn being placed in it, but why would MS talk about the sales of a game they didn't publish? If EA isn't talking sales numbers, why would MS go over their head and talk about them? I know there is never much logic put into conspiracy theories, but c'mon guys.

Regarding EA gloating, I only ever remember them "gloating" about Madden numbers back when it used to sell really well. I don't buy EA games or follow many EA games, but idk, do they constantly gloat about sales numbers? All I ever found for BF3 or BF4 were investor calls. The onus is on you guys making the claim that EA always gloats about sales immediately after release to provide some actual proof.

Then again, conspiracy theories never really rely on proof either. Carry on.
