Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy shouldn't have sequels.

I think that it isnt the case. The problem is square tried to do something radically different with every sequal, trying to reinvent the wheel every time. This obviously leads to problems.

FFX-2 was nothing like FFX in mood and setting. FFX was a drama and FFX-2 is easier to discribed as "girl power".
FFXIII went from well... a convulted and uninteresting mess to FFXIII-2 where it becomes a convoluted and uninteresting mess with time travel! XIII-3 is now the end of times!

I mean... am i the only one that sees these non-sensical leaps of faith? If square actually tried to make a sequal, instead of something completely different, it would work better. For example Tales of Destiny to Tales of Destiny 2 (japan only). That is how a direct sequal should be done. New characters, same familiar combat but a bit better and an expanded world to explore.

Is it THAT difficult?

11 Million total sales so far for the FFXIII Trilogy.

Just FFXIII's first title sold 5.13 Million on PS3 and 2.05 Million on XB360 not even counting digital sales. That's 7.18 Million total, which makes it the 4th best selling single FF title of all time without factoring digital sales. It could even be the 3rd best selling FF if we knew digital sales.

It's basically the 3rd best ever selling single title in the FF franchise in my eyes. It deserves that spot. Deal with it.

Also, the only non-online multiplatform FF. Theres nothing to deal with, there is no comparison.

You're right, Final Fantasy sequels make no sense. Its called final fantasy because theres only supposed to be one realm and thats it. Square is just desperate for cash.

... When did they confirm that XV would be getting sequels?

I agree please stop with the sequels but that won't happen

If Final Fantasy didn't get sequels there wouldn't be a Final Fantasy 2, 3, 4, etc.

And it actually doesn't matter if the series gets sequels, it's just that the writers are terrible and can't make a good sequel. There are plenty of direct sequels that are good, both Japanese and western games, and there are plenty that are bad.

Don't try and be clever. :P A sequel is a continuation of a narrative. Each FF game has a different narrative. They are just games in a series.

Hmm, pie.

agree i would sacrifice every copy of the 13 sequels if it meant 15 would of came out like a couple years ago or soon

if the scope of the whole game allows it there is nothing wrong with releasing it in parts. but that also means it should be planned that way from the get go.

Do the parts of FFXIII meet this scope? It can be said that in television programmes, many of the best are the ones that were planned from the start and end when they need to, not fizzle out. Doing sequels for the sake of sequels (in FFs case) seems a bad idea. FF games are meant to have full self contained stories in 1 game, if FFXV is split into 3 before we even play the first, it means we aren't getting the full story from the start, this isn't right.

with big scope i mean more something like xenogears than ffxiii. ffxiii and ffx imo should have all been ended after the first game.
