Forums - Gaming - Does Nintendo Justify the Wii U?

The only real reason to buy the Wii U is for Nintendo exclusives in my opinion. It is clear the Wii U will not be getting most Xbox One and PS4 games due to a lack of third party support. If you are into really good graphics you will go either Xbox One, PS4 or PC. If you think Wii U graphics are impressive you will probabably go Xbox 360, PS3, or PC as these are cheaper alternatives and these have more attractive online, more games, and achievements.

So lets look at the Nintendo games to determine if the Wii U is a justifiable purchase. So far for the most part the Wii U has a bunch of High quality platformers. Even the Xbox One and PS4 has high quality platformers that are cheap.

The Wii U will be getting Mario Kart 8 but that is a game that for the most part Mario fans buy if they already own the system. There are better alternatives for a racing game on the Xbox One at the moment and I'm sure on PS4 by the end of the year.

Many Zelda fans will buy a Wii U before the game is even close to being announced because they will buy remakes and have faith the next Zelda will be good. I don't believe Zelda is a huge system seller anymore. The last great Zelda game was twilight princess and sales show it.

Nintendo does not have a high selling shooter (metroid is a shooter but is not high selling)

Smash bros - From what i have noticed this is still popular in the US. This is Nintendo's last chance at selling a bunch of Wii U units however this is coming on the 3DS so it might not do a thing. Then again the franchise could be getting fatigue.

As a zelda fan the only reason I would even consider getting a Wii U is if it cost considerably less and was bundled with a majoras mask remake.

So far the way i see it, Unless you are REALLY into platformers and you need more platformers than the PS4 and Xbox One have to offer then there is no reason to own the Wii U RIGHT NOW. MAYBE in thre future. What do you think?

anyway I`m happy with my Wii U and I only have 01 (one) platformer. Where is your god now little panda?

I think the only people that will ever buy a wiiU are the people that think that Nintendo games are worth the asking price of the console which isn't as much if you take into account the free online (where you are basically saving $300 over the course of 5 years but granted the online isn't as good) as well as a lower price point and other things

But I think what Nintendo will do, as they do always, is make their games so amazing, that people want a wiiU to play them... The wiiU has a bunch of games right now that are fun and great but yes, as of right now, it may not be worth it for people to get a wiiU. But after that Mario Kart trailer, if you look at majority of the internet's reaction, it is really positive. I am even amazed on how great the game looks and plays. I don't think I have even seen a single site that didn't praise it for its graphics (in terms of art direction of course)

So after Mario Kart, if you look at the rest of 2014's lineup (provided there aren't any delays), there is Beyonatta 2 (Action Hack & Slash), Super Smash Bros (Fighting), X (Jrpg), Hyrule Warriors (Hack and Slash), Yoshi's Yarn (platformer) and potentially, SMT X FE (Jrpg) as well as what ever they are gonna announce at e3

So, the variety is certainly there which 2013 was largely missing and I think they will be able to Justify a wiiU within the next few months if not after Mario Kart 8

My purchase has been justified - irrespective of my obivious bias in favor of Nintendo - I've enjoyed the hell out ZombiU, The legend of zelda: Wind Waker, Batman Origins,New Super Mario bros U, 3D world, DK, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 which in particular I hold in high esteem. The only thing that pisses me off is the long droughts we have been experiencing, if nintendo were to fix that - i honestly could be satisfied just simply gaming on the wii u and 3ds.

Currently, as things stand the question should be redirected towards the ps4/one - as they offer nothing compelling enough for me to upgrade my ps3/260 or switch from pc to these consoles.

Well I mean I LOVE Nintendo, and their first parties are amazing. I guess I'm not exactly happy with the WiiU, but I guess just having those first parties are okay. WIi U owners voted with their money anyways and they've said they don't care for third parties so...

There's no need to attack the author, he's free to have an opinion.

OT: I agree that exclusives are the main reason to buy a WiiU, but I disagree that PS4 and XBO have something similar to Mario Kart. Gran Turismo and Forza are sim racers, not kart racers. Sony has LBP Karting but I doubt they'll make another one. The only option left on those consoles would be another Sonic racing game.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

These people who say they can't justify a reason to purchase a WiiU for a couple of games, then it's not for you then, no need to make a thread about it, i can't justify a reason to buy an XBOXone or PS4, they simply don't have games that interest me, you dont see me saying they have no games though, WiiU has games i'm interested in, it's just that simple.

Okay. Pretty pointless and there's so much that rubs me the wrong way it's not worth getting into a fight over.

I'll briefly respond to a part of the Zelda part though. You know how Zelda sales 'work' right?

Pretty much this. Any arguments over this signals lots of insecurities that have nothing to do with enjoying video games, in my opinion.

Not for nothing, but Nintendo gets so many quality exclusives that I think it's on par with everything Nintendo can't get, combined. To me, the Wii U is an exclusives platform. While I would personally buy 3rd party games that I'm interested in, Nintendo needs to realize that it's real strength is in providing a large quantity of exclusive content. This is controversial, but Nintendo needs to stop crying about multi plats and start working on securing a munch of exclusive IPs aka acquiring a plethora of popular IPs.
