Forums - Sony - PS4 has always online DRM after all.

So, there is always-online DRM for digital downloads on PS4 but not for disc-based games? If this is true that's pretty bad PR for Sony after what they pulled at E3. Wouldn't really surprise me, not the first time that Sony has expressed interest in DRM, they even held a patent for disc-based DRM at one point.

No. It's the same as it has always been. Companies get patents all the time, doesn't mean they actually do anything with it.

I was thinking that they just left the option open to the developers. Clearly it hasn't been implemented console wide, but is there anything stopping developers from instituting their own always online?

This thread is the best laugh I had in a long time lol. For the lack fact checking in the article and the Sony super fans come to damage control in their usually name calling way :P.

Sony fan here. Didn't name call, only performed an experiment. I wanted to know myself. :)

"A video is circulating which displays a PS4 user irritated that his games could not be played without an internet connection. He attempts to play Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Sound Shapes, and Flower…

Each of the titles refuse to launch, instead displaying a message stating: “Cannot start the application. The PS4 is not connected to the internet and cannot verify the license for the application”

So you don't see the difference between Disc-Games and PSN-Download (digital only) Games ?

So it's not an "alwys onlie" DRM after all ...

Your not who I was referring too. See the earlier comments on this page to know who I'm talking about ;). I'm also a Sony fan, just not a super fan.

People having problem with digital game DRM... Were you living under a rock the whole of last gen?

Like Sony or any other publisher is going to allow people to just copy-paste any digitally downloaded games from one console to an other. ¬_¬

Some of you people are really desperate...  -__-

This is despicable!

I went and installed all my PSN games on all my friends PS4's and now they can't play them?

WTF Sony?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

This is what MS's R&D funs are going towards? Spreading inaccurate info on Sony?
