Valve are a private company, they do not answer to public shareholders. They are free to lose millions of dollars on PR ventures if they choose. I suspect Dota 2, The International, and Steambox fall into this category.



Bethesda Softworks: They get away with so much. I wouldn't be surprised if murder is among them.

Rare. They once earned their paychecks by developing great games that revolutionized the industry. Now they get paid for half-assed crap like Nuts and Bolts. Being bought by Microsoft was the luckiest thing for them.

Rockstar, they can pretty much make any game they want I imagine. And do an incredible job at that.
