You don't need a membership.

Go to the Marketplace, All Games, XNA, download the XNA thing.

In the Library, don't click on the XNA thing, go to it and press Y to download (free) games.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

I've tried messing with the program before, last i checked a few months ago the service and the tools required a yearly membership of 99 dollars. That may have changed since they opened it up.

The XNA framework is free. The snag is that if you want to use it in conjunction with the 360 you are required to be in the Creator's Club. Current rates are $49 every 3 months or $99 a year.

You won't have to be a member to PLAY games made with XNA, though, that's the new thing.

While I'd rather it be totally free on both sides, this IS the most open any console has ever been.($99 a year allows you to distribute games you make to ANY 360 owner who downloads the free XNA software)

this thing sounds really cool to me, but i have no idea how this new system is going to work can someone explain the whole setup to me. a little confused. Like are these just random people developing in there basements or companies. it it in the marketplace of its own separate place

Jelly Car is awesome. Very simple but lots of fun.

My only concern is about the rights for these games. I mean, imagine one guy comes up with a revolutionary idea, will he be able to actually profit from it, or will Microsoft make you agree to a special provision where you transfer all property rights to the firm ?

Videogirl -

I would assume that if there was anything revolutionary, MS would probably try to get the game by legal (and profitable to the maker) means.

Will be neat to see what all ends up becoming of this. Could see some very good, cheap/free gems for XBLA/C.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
