Which company is the most essential for console gaming?

Nintendo 453 49.08%

Sony 416 45.07%

Microsoft? 53 5.74%

Total:922

Sony, I think years have shown us that the Playstation brand has had a more than great impact on the industry and how gaming is viewed by non gamers

It baffles me that some are saying Playstation could be replaced so easily by apple or amazon(?) considering the history of success and brand recognition it has.

It seems that there is a lot of people over here that think yearly FIFAs, Madden and COD are the only thing playstation has to offer and ignore the wide range of AAA games in almost every genre that PS consoles have historically holden

Nintendo introduces gamer as children, Sony keeps them gaming through adult hood, and MS makes it mainstream in the US. With only one by itself would fail, when it was only Nintendo gaming wasn't taken seriously at all.

I was actually happy when gaming wasn't taken seriously/trying to be hollywood so hard.

@carl2291...Your post states playstation has sold more consoles which is true but you failed  to mention Nintendo sold the most software (nintendo 4billion >Sony and Microsoft )just saying  and if you wanna argue well that nintendo been out longer ...compare nintendo 64,GameCube ,wii and wii u (in which Sony playstation 1,2,3,4 ) had been out the same time (nintendo software 1.4 billion software units sold>Sony and Microsoft ) my point is don't get too caught up in hardware sales because as you can see even though more people owned more Sony playstations more people bought more software for Nintendos products ...just saying ...which shows why nintendo is not in aany debt because software is where the most money is made not hardware ...so nintendo in my opinion is far more revelant than Sony or Microsoft as you said numbers don't lie lol....jay70sgamer

As far as hardware sold Nintendo is on top, and as far as software goes, Nintendo is also top. But I guess none of that matters since handheld consoles can't be considered hardware.

Still, I would say that Nintendo is the most important, as it's the one that offers a different experience from the rest. Sony and Microsoft are interchangeable as they basically offer similar consoles.

For the 8th console generation: AMD ;)

I have a hard time believing that, where are you getting your software numbers?

I'm pretty sure, Microsoft would be ahead, if all MS-DOS and Windows games of 30 years would be correctly tracked. ;)

Sony.

Mainly because they're the main reason MS took a risk to jump into the gaming industry, so without them, there would be no Xbox and who knows if gaming would even be as popular as it is for adults seeing as Ninty only targets families.
