Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Expect More 1080p Games on Xbox One in the Future

Sub Headline: Sniper Elite 3 developer made similar claims last month.

Xbox One owners will see more native 1080p resolution games in the future, according to Boyd Multerer, director of development for Xbox.

Speaking to Xbox: The Official Magazine, Multerer explained it's just a matter of time until game creators optimize development for Xbox One. "I fully expect [more 1080p games] to happen," he said. "The [graphics processing units] are really complicated beasts this time around."

Multerer also commented on launch titles for Xbox One, pointing out that developers didn't have the time to fully explore the capabilities of the console. But they will, he claimed. "The hardware is basically baked, and what comes next is people discovering better software techniques to take advantage of it, especially in the ordering of the data so it flows through all the caches correctly, and I think there's a lot of opportunity there," said Multerer.

These expectations line up with what the senior producer of Sniper Elite 3 discussed last month when talking about game resolution differences between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. "They are releasing a new SDK that’s much faster, and we will be comfortably running at 1080p on Xbox One," said Jean-Baptiste Bolcato. "We were worried six months ago and we are not anymore, it’s got better and they are quite comparable machines."

In the meantime, Microsoft recently announced a new update for Xbox One coming out in April, and 25 new indie games were just revealed for the system.

The fact that we have to expect it is really sad

That's a good thing.

Lol, welcome to next gen MS? I'll believe it when I see it. The Wii U can do 1080p too if enough is taken away.

It's so pointless to measure games by their resolution. Don't get me wrong, a higher resolution is always great if possible, but it's what you are showing at the resolution that matters, not the resolution itself.

Of course the XBO can do 1080p, but it seems strange that developers are having a hard time achieving it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Whats about frames per second? 1080p is kind of a meaningless stat if your game is still 30 FPS.

Exactly.  It's like resolution and frame rate are the ONLY things that matter to some people.  Every game on the XBone can display at 1080p.  But it would be because of a downgrade in the graphics in another aspect (assets, textures, shaders, etc.).

Killzone 6 proved native 1080p is entirely irrelevant. Its a placebo effect if you put 1080p on the box and in PR.

doesnt seem strange to me at all that XBO games arent at 2080p.
