Forums - Gaming - 4K Gaming...What do you guys think about it?

Recently I actually bought a 4k TV and it is pretty awesome with native 4k content. That being said, I am not sure if it really makes sense to push for 4k gaming. Sure if you got a uber pc and run games at max settings at 120fps but not for consoles, which will always be the main platform for developers. Hell, I don't think we will see 4k consoles games till the ps6 comes out to be honest.

isn't 4k on youtube.. not really 4k, and if your pc monitor or TV isn't 4k.. you won't really see it as much

This.

Don't mean to be a meanie, but your opinion in the thread is rendered pointless.

4K is the true "game changer" rather than VR as some would desperately want you to believe.

Don't bring VR into this! Both are awesome and both will have their place. Just a matter of time.

Nice question to ask in a mainly console-gaming forum. We won't see 4k gaming this gen...

I dont see any reason the Xbox One can not play say a 16 bit game at 4K. I know MS said the One supports 4K. Any similar statements frrom Sony?

Well, MS made a statement about the console outputting at 4K, Sony did as well, but they won't let games output at this resolution yet.

However in the PS4's case, we have some developer commenting on that the performance was like for Trine 2 game on the devkit:

"It runs at native 1080p at 60 frames per second - but that's just the beginning of the story. Frozenbyte's impressive Trine 2 has migrated to PlayStation 4 in fine form - not only does it combine the optimal mix of resolution and frame-rate, but it's the only game to support stereoscopic 3D, running internally at an effective 1080p120 in the process. Indeed, according to the developer, Trine 2 could even hit 4K at 30fps should Sony ever unlock the output of the PS4 to support ultra-HD resolution."

This is not a very demanding game, but it tells us that in some cases people may decide they want this options (I prefer 1080p60fps... smooth is better and so far most games cannot hold their 60fps, many don't even hold their 30)

That is what I was saying, I thought MS said that games on the One would support 4K. I will try to find a link

http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/23/4359450/xbox-one-will-support-4k-output-resolution-and-3d

"Mehdi also revealed the console will support 4K for Blu-ray at launch, with the possibility of games and other content being available at 4K in the future if they are rendered at that resolution.

"There's no hardware restriction there at all," he said."

I have not seen Sony mention 4K games like MS has. We all know that they will not be able to play intensive games at 4K but they should be able to play unintensive games at 4K. I do not intend to get a 4K tv until consoles "fully" support it and until they get down to 3000$ or less. As I said on another post I expect the norm of the PS5/XBOne2 to be 2K and the norm of the PS6/XBOne3 to be 4K
