Along with today’s screenshot, Sakurai passed along the following message on Miiverse:

That item that brings victory one step closer…the Smash Ball! Of course everyone wants it! Come to think of it, I haven’t introduced any of the Final Smashes yet… Then again, if I introduced every single one, it’d take over a month’s worth of posts.

 

He doesn't post pics on weekends.

But no doubt there will be over 30 characters, already at 24.

I think you're reading too much into things. There are 24 characters RIGHT now. If you were to show off all of their final smashes it would take more then a month since the pictures of the day are only updated five days a week.

I think that confirms the idea that we're somewhere in the neighborhood of 40-50. A month of posts for him is about 20-25 days, so he's perhaps saying in addition to the announced characters.
