Forums - Gaming - Why don't you just use trumotion and make every game 60fps?

Trumotion, Cinemotion, SmoothMotion...

All the same name for the worst addition to modern televisions. If you watch a movie (or really anything) with this feature on, everything looks like a soap opera or local television commercial. And you'll see this is in the wild in many sports bars and even some cinemas on their lobby preview screens.

I don't know what it would do to gaming, but it kills everything else it touches.

That's just your brain associating TV shows with having a higher frame rate than movies.

It's called the soap opera effect, and it's just a result of the higher framerate regardless of how it's generated. If you think 60fps games look ok, then 30fps games in trumotion will  look ok too.

Around the Network

Because of artifacts and most of all... INPUT LAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really, really important to emphasize that.

It looks ugly as hell too. Not everything on your screen needs to look like a soap opera crapshow.

And that was my rant on tru motion and such things. I hate, hate, hate it.

Yep.

Input lag.

I got the KDL55W900A.  Sony's newer tvs are the best you're going to get if you're a gamer who wants a large hdtv because the input lag is ridiculously low for such a large size in comparison to the alternative.  19ms on game mode.  However when not on game mode, the input lag is noticeable.  It's like playing on my other hdtv while on game mode.

I made three set ups for my tv.  One with the best picture I could on game mode, one with the best picture I could with everything off, and one with the best picture I could with clear which seems the smoothest setting on the tv without making everything really dark.  Game mode degrades the image quality very slightly and gaming on clear looks amazing, but it looks amazing while introducing noticeable input lag to me.

I've noticed that most trumotion like TV's also increase input lag. It's worst for multiplayer. I take my monitor to my freinds houses now, there TV's are good... but slow.

It's upscaling of frame rate. It wouldn't truly be a 60 fps game unless it's rendered at that level. It wouldn't be honest to call it a 60fps game.

Personally I think thing look better, but it also does generate noise. You will notice edges of non moving object 'dancing' around the moving parts.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
