Forums - General - A solution to HD-DVD adopters.

Also, I love the people who say digital downloads will take over disc sales. I'm sorry, but there is NO WAY that will happen in the near future.

A dual layer Blu-ray Disc holds 50GB. Assuming the disc is completely full because it has an insanely long movie/tons of bonus content in HD/a program that hacks into NORAD's database on it, to be absolutely equal, your download must also be 50GB.

Assuming you are downloading at your maximum speed the whole time, to download 50GB...

with a 1.5 megabit/sec dsl connection: just over 3 days
with a 5 Mb/s cable connection : ~22hrs, 13min.
with a 30Mb/s Verizon FiOS connection (which costs 90$/month and is the fastest advertised speed I could find): ~3hrs, 43min.

Now if you just want to watch the movie, it's not quite as bad, but downloads are NOT going to be able to compete directly with discs in the near future.

Wasn't there a thread like this, only for when the Gamecube failed?

I'm kidding alright!
