OOOOH I SO CALLED THIS.

I really think a price drop will hurt Microsoft more than help.
Premium @ 350 vs 40gb @ 399

is better than

Premium @250 40gb @ 299

If for no other reason, then for Blu-Ray.

No problem. It's not even bad English, just misleading.

I'm jsut curious as to WHAT stores these people ar etalking about that 360s and Wii are not sold out at?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8008559&st=wii&type=product&id=1156203165702

Because it isn't at Amazon or Best Buy or Walmart...and you take those away and that's pretty much like the major distribution chains?

lol go back to the site. it says SOLD OUT ONLINE and it says not available in store

This is actually a theory I've been thinking about for some time:

Nintendo obviously needs some increased production capacity. They probably do not want to have to build more factories. However, they may have some retooling to do, either basic maintenence in the factories or potentially attempting to increase production a little bit. Before the holiday period, they may not have wanted to do this - the lack of production while it is getting retooled would murder their holiday sales.

However, after the holidays comes a lull - historically at least. It would be the perfect time to begin rollouts for some factory retools. If some of the factories are offline getting retooled, they would necessarily have fewer consoles to send out. And if there is a delay or something in one of the factories, it could cause fewer enough units to be made to adversely affect sales to even this extent.

I only say this because this whole year the Wii shipments have been *very* odd... almost cyclicly odd. I have absolutely no evidence that this may be true, and it is complete conjecture. It just makes a little bit of sense in my head, so I thought I'd see what y'all thought.

Sony Domination begins NOW! B3h0lD +h3 p0w3R 0f +eh C311!

No but seriously, let's not use the Nintendo is stockpiling excuse because Brawl is about to come out. Let's not forget what happened the week that SSBB came out in Japan after everyone said they were stockpiling, and they only raised a little in respect to the week before.

What's happeneing is obvious. Nintendo can not be producing 1.8 mil/month. It can't be happening. Because the Wii has yet to sell 1.8 million every month. I don't know where all the supposed Wii's are, but they can't be stockpiling, not when brawl just came out in Japan.

Let's try finding a new excuse.

In other news: Good for PS3. This week will go down in history, as the week that the PS3 had outsold the Wii in america. You know, this may have something to do with Blu-Ray.
Wow, you are so wrong its kinda funny. Brawl hype here is like as big as Halo's was. Nintendo has to be stockpiling Wii's for Brawl's launch.

Okay. If that's what everyone wants to say.

This was the exact excuse used a few weeks ago when numbers weren't that great in different regions and it was "Nintendo is diverting to Japan for Brawl release", and "nintendo is stockpiling", and when the numbers came (and disappointed), everyone wanted to take back what they said. Now I'm not saying it's gonna happen again, but if it does, prepare to eat crow.

But it really doesn't matter. The fact of the matter is it doesn't matter how it happened, the PS3 outsold the Wii in America this week. The FIRST time that it's ever happened. It deserves a celebration.

Does anyone think that Blu-Ray may have had anything to do with this?

 Cheers for Sony!

LOL.  Too bad I can't drink... legally.

IIRC Blu-Ray's major advances came on Sunday (EDIT: I think I'm actually wrong about that...) which is a bit late for them to majorly effect last week's sales. We should see more clearly the effects of blu-ray's win this week.

Stockpiling is the ONLY reason that this is happening. There's no other reason why shipments would be so low this week, there has never been a huge decrease like this IIRC except for Xmas when they were totally sold out, and had just used up their stockpile.

Mm ,now that I look closer looks like if the 360 has received some 30K cut for january ....well done then .

Uhh... no.

But I will give you points as that was the most clearly thought out respons that I have ever gotten to the whole supply issue and actually makes sense.

The reason why I don't believe that is because they wouldn't go about doing this with Brawl and Wii fit and maybe Kart coming out in the next three months, when they'd need to get a lot of units out.  If they were doing this, they'd probably wait to the summer lull.

(A) I disagree.
(B) I don't think Sony could match a price drop right away if MS does it very soon, so there would be a period of $250 vs. $400.
(C) $100 price drops aren't going to happen any more anyway. Ever (this gen). It'll be $50, then later (more likely much later) $50. IMO anyway.
