Yeah it would make sense, as much gamer rip on Microsoft, they where the one that help boosted the western game development thanks to the popularity of the DirectX engine. If this engine is even more dev friendly then the Unreal Engine 4, this could boost Windows 8 and PC gaming numbers.

Plus, they made some great games like Age of Mythology, MechWarrior, Kinect Adventures, Crackdown, etc. People forget Bill Gates himself wrote code some games.
Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Unreal Enginge 4 run on top of DirectX? (and OpenGL, etc.) It might allow them to make it better though.

Yeah Unreal Engine and DirectX are completely different things.

Only Microsoft uses DirectX, but the other guys still use an equivalent in order to match DX feature for feature.
