It's MSoft, so as you say, it will likely be tied to Win 8.1 or even Win 9.

The biggest issue with Mantle is that only few AMD cards support it... nVidia dominates with over 60% of the market... from these 38% AMD have only maybe 10% have Mantle supported GPU.

MS already said they are working on something like Mantle to DirectX and I'm sure they will support wat more GPUs that Mantle ever dreamed... so Mantle won't be used except some few games.

If it's true and they can upgrade or have it built it to Run DirectX 12 this could be a very big deal.  Games could look another generation or so better soon.  And Xbox One might have a very long life.

Another big thing people are overlooking is that if DirectX 12 become lead platform all games will start look really, really good. 



 

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

I doubt MS would release a new console and then not announce DirectX 12 for it 5 months later. They were prepared for this.

at first I thought why even bother, pc gaming is dead since the 90s.
but then I saw the xbone logo and now it make sense.

jk, but I hope ms had this planed beforehand and not just after amd pressured them with mantle.

but most likely be 8.1 or even 9 exclusive and hopefully made with also the pc in mind and not just an xbone improvement halfheartly implemented for the pc.
