Adjust for inflation and you will have a different picture. The life cycle of PS4 will be shorter with fewer units and games sold while the costs to maintain it exploded in comparison to the PS2. Think of the massive internet infrastructure Sony has to maintain which it didn't during PS2 times.
I think it will be a lot less profitable speaking of profit margin and overall profit.

Games cost more to make this gen but game prices are still the same. And Sony is not where it is during the ps2 times. So unless they can make the console profitable and figure how to pretty much make us pay more for games, like really taking things out and using those things to drive more people to dlc, I don't see them even being more profitable than ps3 after it finally started to make money.
