That's partly why i feel EA especially should be removed from this conversation. They had a commitment for a higher level of support, then backstabbed Nintendo in the most spectacular way, leaving them holding the bag. I would think EA's commitment would have been pretty reliable in early-stage planning for releases, wouldn't you have?

Nintendo paying for a port would have some advantages (guarantee no gimps), since it reflects the very inferior bargaining position they now have with just about everyone, except companies in greater financial straits like Sega or Capcom. It would just have to be applied judiciously still, as there's no sense in paying for a late port and it's sometimes hard to feel out whether it would be worth paying for game X or game Y (for a game that was just bad across the board, Sony and Microsoft at least got it for free but Nintendo had to pay for it).

Fun fact - EA released more games for Wii U in the first 6 Month than Nintendo did. I think EA were classed as reliable in the early Wii U days. Only Ubisoft had more games on Wii U than EA at the time of Most Wanted, as far as I can remember.

FIFA 13
Madden 13
Need for Speed Most Wanted
Mass Effect 3

They sold a combined 450,000 units.

Compared to what they put on PS4...

FIFA 14
Battlefield 4
Need for Speed Rivals
Madden 25
NBA Live 14

Madden 25 alone has sold over 560,000 units with NBA Live being the only EA bomb on PS4.

This is why EA continues to support PS4 and why EA no longer supports Wii U. This is why they continues Wii development with the likes of FIFA, despite dropping Wii U development. Theyre going where the sales are. This is why so many devs are putting games on mobile, because its where the sales (profits) are. They run a business and the aim is to make money. If theyre bleeding money on Wii U development, then they will stall Wii U development. When you add in that the machine is underpowered and developers are shifting funds to new PS4/ Xbox One engines, support will continue to dwindle.

We forget that EA declared their breach with Nintendo *before* the Wii U released. Not long before, actually, such that the games that landed were sent out to die.

This is why i didn't want to discuss this. I'm close to insinuating something regrettable.

Yes. Sorry, harsh but truth: People is ignoring Retro's latest offer on the Wii U, just like they decided to choose over other options with a lot more potential.

Is DonkeyKong's fault? No, it's Nintendo's fault to believe it will sell hardware when Returns proved that it sold on a established userbase. It's Nintendo's fault to greenlite a game that doesn't looks like a new complete generation when other consoles is offering that. It's Nintendo's fault to release the same games as the Wii.

People wanted new games, new experiences and Nintendo is just releasing the same content as the Wii with higer resolution. Wii Party, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, DKC Returns, New Super Mario Bros Wii have already sequels on the Wii U, and guess what, everything has bombed compared to their predecessors.

Every time I see my Wii U I imagine all those games Nintendo could have developed with outstandings graphics, effects, and new gameplay. Then, I got depressed looking at what we are getting.

It's not DK's fault, it's Nintendo's.

So why is COD selling so well every release then?

The problem is the hardware isn't appealing enough to  buy it for one game. Maybe after 5 more appealing big hitters we shall see hardware sales increase. But again lots of hype is lost on the console since launch to basically none existent.

Here's and idea for you.

(1) Go out and purchase a Playstation 3.
(2) Experience all the wonderful ip's that the Playstation 3 has to offer. The Last Of Us, Puppeteer, Guacamelee, Uncharted 3, Wipeout, Beyond Two Souls, Enslave, 3D DOT Games Heroes, Starhawk.
(3) Unplug from EVERYTHING NINTENDO, and never look back.............

I can ask a friend to lend me his ps3. Zelda is the only game worth buying a console, and maybe Metroid. Nothing more.

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

So no more Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Xenoblade, Legend of Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Mario, F-Zero, Bayonetta 2, X, Yoshi, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Pikmin, or Star Fox? How about having best of both brands?

You're overcomplicating the reality of what happened.

Third parties (including EA) tried to support the system initially and found it wasn't capable of producing noticably better games than PS360 and the sales were vastly inferior. As console sales collapsed in January they realised the system was a joke and moved on to viable systems.

The whole EA conspiracy theory is completely moronic and ignores the fact that EVERY third party has given up on the sytem outside of paid exclusives. The third party situation is entirely Nintendo's fault.

It's not a conspiracy theory though, it's established fact. The only speculation is precisely why EA decided to basically cut all support even before the console launched.

Again, we must avoid this line of EA defense. It brings out the worst in me.

I will say this. And please dont take this the wrong way.

Smash Bros has done almost nothing to change the formula. Its almost just a roster upgrade. And even in that, its more of the same too.

Mario Kart seems to be taking a few tidbits from F-Zero, Wipeout and Sonic Racing Transrofmed, so Im ok with the changes incoming for this title.

Xenoblade is pretty safe bet to excite fans.

Zelad. Again, Bombs to open walls, find the bow and arrow somewhere in the map, Theres gonna be a bommerang as well, link does not use voice overs, a spin attack. Rince wash repeat.

Kirby has lost its flair over the past game or so. Its better Nintendo keeps it to the handhelds.

Metroid would do well with classic controls. Only if Nintendo does not make it 1st person and not too much of a fetch/ scan quest. Really, the worst thing about metroid prime was having to scan every damb thing. Got real booring.

Donkey Kong TF LOOKS EXACTLY like DK country. Put those games side by side and most gamers would not know they were on different systems. Same map layout, same sidekicks (sans kranky), same machanics. Copy paste repeat.

Mario. Listen carefully. THERE ARE TOO MANY MARIO GAMES. Mario Sticker star, Super Mario U, Mario Tennis, Mario Golf, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Mario and Sonic. There is no reason for a Super Mario Wii-U and Super Luigi Wii-U. NONE. They both look and play the same. New Super Mario 3D World is just another copy paste of SMW in 3D.

Im going to stop there cause my point is, Nintendo needs to stop being safe and take chances. Release new ip's. Pikmin W101 & were the last real new and exciting games that Nintendo has released in years. And fact is, there reall just ok games. Nintendo fans also have to take a stand. I love me some old franchises just like the other guy, but if you guys/gals keep buying these copy paste games, Nintendo will only continue to keep releasing them. I play on Playstation and 1 thing that I am certin of and has been for the last 10 or so years is that the Playstation brand will always release new and unique ip's.

Japan Studios, Naughty Dog Uncharted,Zipper Interactive Socom, Evolution Motorstorm,  Insomniac Ratchet & Clank,S.O.E.,  SantaMonica StudiosGod Of War, Media Molicule LBP, Studio Liverpool Wipeout, Sucker Punch inFamous, Polyphony Digital Gran Turismo, Guerrilla Games Killzone,  Sony Bend Sypon Filter.

These are some of the reasons that I support the Playstation, that and I will always get if not all 3rd party titles released on a console powerful enough to run current gen games.

Nintendo makes great games, the problem is that they have not CREATED a NEW experience in a long LONG time.

Time for change my friend.

The Zelda experience has not evolved as it should have.

I know that Links Sword, Bow and Arrow, Bombs and Bommerang are all iconic. But the formula needs a HUGE overhaul.

Have you even played them? I recall you saying you haven't played Nintendo games in something of a decade or more.
