Not really, I at least respect a PS/Nintendo fan for sticking to their guns gen over gen.

Why does that deserve respect?  Sounds like an idiot to me. someone that would stay loyal and miss out on great games just cos there not on there hardware manufacturer of choice. 

Would you respect people that only watch films made by Warner Brothers?

More like why would a Toronto Maple Leafs fan travel to Montreal to see the Montreal Canadians play? People can and do get attached to a "team". But movies.....lol who cares.

A more fitting example is a consumer who sticks with American car brands and doesn't buy Japanese cars. Swing consumers don't have any loyalties. But those who do, they have principle and I respect that.

Cos movies and games have many parralells unlike sports or cars. Id also say being loyal to a car manufacturer is also stupid. 

Why not play the BEST games, why not buy the BEST car, no lets respect people that buy shit because there loyal to a company.

I think I understand where you're coming from. But I think the principles you're trying to associate with console loyalty are not there. And they're not there for car maker fanboys either (you only need to experience the Holden vs Ford fanboy wars in Australia to see that if anything the attachment to hardware is more unprincipled than principled).

I can understand console loyalty at some level of principle if: You're American and you want to patriotically support American companies, and so as a gamer you buy Xbox regardless of the ups and downs of what Microsoft has done in trying to promote their brand. But you might also buy PS or Nintendo because you also want to get the broadest gaming experience you can afford. But you continue to show your patriotic loyalty by always buying multiplats on Xbox. Same goes for Japanese people, though the patriotic thing doesn;t explain Nintendo vs. PS. Or

If you're neither Japanese or American, but you're either a Americaphile or Japanophile, for whatever reason, so you just always buy brands from those countries whenever you can. Or

You have a particular aversion to the competing companies in a more general sense than just the console hardware, so you prefer to avoid contributing to their profits wherever possible (which is where I'm at with Microsoft, which was only strenghtened by the DRM they tried to shaft gamers with, despite the fact they were forced into a 180). Well you get the picture. Principles have to apply in a much borader context than just loyalty to a specific brand for no other reason than you identify yourself with that console brand; that sort of narrow loyalty is pretty shallow and not really worthy of respect.

My reasons for only buying PS consoles to date are not based on principles (aside from the not liking MS as a company principle). But I am not particularly loyal to PS or Sony. If Sony had jumped aboard the DRM train with MS I'd be owning a Wii U right now.

This generation PS4 wins on the price & spec front. It's specs are far superior to Wii U, and notably better than Xb one. And on price Wii U isn't cheap enough to overcome the weakness of the hardware. And who in their right mind would buy a lower spec'd console for a higher price? Those who buy Xb one are doing so because they prefer the exclusive game library, or Kinect. But for those who are all about the 3rd party games and care nothing for Kinect, Xb one has basically no positive selling points. MS probably underestimated the size of the gamer pool who are ambivalent towards Kinect and exclusive games. And not understanding the market is what lead MS to take Xbox in the wrong direction.

It means some gamers are enough smart to not be hardcore fans and prefer to choose  the best horse for a better price with the best  futur .

But yeah, I figured as much. I expect that number of people switching from Xbox to Playstation to increase as well.
