Let me guess ... gow ascension didn't sell well.

I read somewhere that it's sold close to 3 million already, so that's not it.

They've been on a hiring spree for ages, maybe they're just laying off the lesser devs to hire new talent from Irrational Games or something?

depends when those games sold. If it was 3m at 50$ then that's something....3m at 20$ is another

Around the Network

I heard Retro Studios is hiring.

I don't know why layoffs in a business setting is surprising people. Especially considering these aren't vast layoffs.

I wonder if there will be any further development on this.

Why would they move to a new, much bigger, studio if they're laying people off?

Because things change.

Also isn't it bigger because they wanted more space to do mocap stuff? Bigger doesnl;t necessarily mean intended to accomodate more permanent staff. I can see them bringing in contractors on a project basis, just like the movie biz does. It's one way for AAA studios to survive by having less permanent staff to carry between projects.

Shame though. One of the flagship first party studios downsizing is not a sign of robust health in the game development world.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
