Interesting thread. I'm not sure how I'd go about selecting my favourite system, because I love different systems for very different reasons. I'm partial to some classic systems, but more modern systems have so much to offer.
In the end it comes down to a number of different systems. Sega Saturn was one of my favourites as a teenager, it had some strong games (especially as I was finally old enough to understand that importing was the way forward because, fuck you Japan), but it's probably not the best system ever. PS2 is the system I have the most games for, and it was spectacular. Dreamcast has a special place in my heart as it was the last console I had before I moved out of my parents house; so the last time I could really throw myself into gaming. It also had some of the best games I've ever played. The PSOne has some incredible games, particularly the Final Fantasy series, but it's aged poorly if we're honest. The original Xbox was the spiritual successor to my beloved Dreamcast and had some great games in it's own right as well as being reliable and comfortable to use. The PS3 is probably the strongest console yet. It has a fantastic library, great features, a blu-ray drive, and it has most of the best PS2/PSOne games re-released on it anyway. Dammit... why would you make me choose.
OK. I'm going to have to go with... a tie, because screw you for making me choose.
