Really would have thought that Sony would have announced the weekend figures by now...

They are still hiring more fingers to count the dozens of sold units.

Considering how expensive the PS4 is  they will still manage to shift about 200-300 thousand easy. Imagine the X1 in Japan then????

Obviously a lot more since they had more time to bring japanese centered games on the market. Which is the only thing selling consoles according to some people in this forum.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

If they have a second shipment lined up already they must of been pretty confident of strong sales.

I am still surpised that Japan is interested in the Playstation 4, while there are barely any Japanese games available

I good news after all depressing comment about how ps4 number will be bad

those depressing comments were meaningless rants , coming from nowhere.    PS4 is doing great everywhere, but we all know that Japan is not anymore into consoles like before.  Hope this will change with PS4.

I believe ps4 will change that but know we can't say it will sell good or bad.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

This kind of tells me that Japan has become a predominantly mobile and handheld country. But it doesn't mean that there isn't a strong console crowd out there. It just is not as strong as Europe or Japan of the PS2 era. Expect between PS1 & PS3 numbers.

* Close to PS3 because of mobile-first state
* Close to PS1 because PS4 is a lot cheaper than PS3
* Close to PS1 because there is no gigantic Wii overshadowing

We just don't know which of those effects will dominate...

Playstation 5 vs XBox Series Market Share Estimates

Regional Analysis  (only MS and Sony Consoles)
Europe     => XB1 : 23-24 % vs PS4 : 76-77%
N. America => XB1 :  49-52% vs PS4 : 48-51%
Global     => XB1 :  32-34% vs PS4 : 66-68%

It seems to me Sony must have got a decent supply to Japan, since they obviously have been holding some back from NA and EU. So, hopefully my prediction of 401K is spot on. Actually, I hope it exceeds it. And I'm guessing we'll get updated figures later today. If not, we'll just have to wait til Wed.

just give me the damn numbers already!!!1!

I think they might wait till theyve passed 6M to announce numbers again.

Tomorrow then ...

The PS5 Exists.

Perfect. The PS4 is still hard to find in the rest of the world, so Sony wouldn't want to overship. At the same time they want a great launch. More or less selling out Sunday night would be optimal. This can't really be used to predict sales, but it does show that Sony correctly predicted the market.

Virtually every launch in Japan aside from the XBox (lol) sells out its initial shipment within the first few days. Wii U and Vita included.

People were able to walk into stores on Saturday (a day after launch) and pick up a system without a pre-order or having to line up, that's just the reality of it, that's all people were saying that the launch was not the same deal as the US/Europe.
