Forums - Politics - What can the next U.S president realistically do to fix the problems Bush and Obama created?

They need a white Democrat that the Reichwing's Ministry of Propaganda is not going to be able to demonize like they were able to demonize President Obama primarily because of his skin color ( note: when all these people say that President Obama is a Muslim that's actually a code for another word that they are for the most part afraid to use that starts with an "N" ) to the point that the poor, uneducated white Christian voters aren't going to put in an Obstructionist Republican Senate that is only going to give a crap for the wishes of the ungodly wealthy Reichwingers and block every decent thing the new President has planned to do for the majority of the country's citizens and that would actually be of far greater value to the poor, uneducated, easily duped, white Christian voters / sheeple than what they're led into voting for by the Reichwing's Ministry of Propaganda.

6. I agree but this would have to probably lead to more government involvement and taxes, which a significant amount of people are not too happy about. All this needs is a change in mindset, surely if they saw there taxes give them something necessary in return then they would support stuff like free healthcare (it costs far less per head this way). However it's likely no significant tax increase would be neccessary to fund this, as the military funding would be slashed first. The other thing would be to prevent tax avoidance which occurs when companies and the rich move there money to offshore accounts.

7. I don't know too much about this, sorry. ~http://www.beggarscanbechoosers.com/2011/09/america-prospered-in-1950s-with-91.html

Just to give some insight to it

I think the problem is the country is more or less stuck in a catch-22 situation. People want lower taxes, and the debt to decrease, to decrease the military budget but also defend America's allies, less government intervention but also less mega-corporations and lower unemployment along with that the political parties and representatives are reluctant to have a middle ground.

Unfortunately the world don't work like that. So a compromise is needed.

A change of mindset is a powerful thing, maybe the most powerful thing in the world but that is much eaiser said than done. Insurance companies and the strong spirit of neoliberalism in America will prevent this from becoming a reality any time in the near future. You don't need to go far to find fierce opposition to universal healthcare and powerful people who benefit from a lack of UH.

Ah yes the 50s, ok. Well the biggest problem with trying to enforce 50s policies today is in the 50s America was benefitting greatly from the post-war economic boom. Germany and Japan were destoryed, the British, French, Chinese and Soviets were ruined, America was not. America had no competition, combined with large population growth and a massive demand for industral products, shot America to the top. This gold rush has dried up a long time ago, you can't impose policies from then, now, especially considering the state of America's industries. Mega corporations (which were no where near as powerful in the 50s) and their neoliberal allies will continously oppose a sharp increase tax on them citing that it will raise prices, cost American jobs and these policies are anti-American.

Well, this is the way the world has been running for a while. Politicians from the left, right, centre, whereever have made a living off of double standards and contradictory policies. Look at Obama's contradictions from the things he has said to what he does. But I mean it's not his fault entirely. As long as this neoliberalist mindset exists and the culture continues to support it, you can have anyone be the president but you will always get very little done.
