When do you think we will see a standard video game format, or will we?

 I think video game companies will become more like cable/satellite companys as downloads become the way of the future. But will they standardize it to where the only difference will be how they encrypt it.

Note: I'm not talking about the immediate future

I think he is asking whether or not all games can play on all consoles. ie all consoles are compatable. For example Super Mario Galaxy can play on PS3 and 360 and Halo3 on Wii and Ps3

well, in order to 'standardize', you must make an universal format, no?

and to do that, all 3 console must be able to run it. ;)

nah, I was just kidding before. But I don't believe in this "single" standard thing Jaffe was talking about. It sounds more like monopoly to me and in this world of gaming, there's no way that can be achieved.

Also, I'm not buying the whole "download become the future", with the DRM the MPAA (and even the gaming industry) are so highly wanted, user will never get what they wanted, and therefore, they will never truly embrace it.

I don't see much changing in next 20 years.

If I remember right wasn't the 3DO like this. 3 or 4 consoles where all games could be played on all consoles. That was a major flop.

I guess what I was getting at was once hardware stabalize why wouldn't other hardware company lease the opperating systems from someone like microsoft. This way like PCs the only thing that would matter would be that it was running that OS.
