Is the US military going to do anything about this or no?

They didn't do anything on Egypt nor Libia a couple of years ago. Don't see them doing anything here either.

Why is this happening? Political reasons?

There have been a lot of problems lately, is difficult to find food, too much violence in the streets, the economy going to the shit, and many other reasons. 

The above are the reasons for the protests, while there are some political reasons behind,  the majority are fighting for a different cause. Even people who are/were with the president (Nicolas Maduro) are protesting as we speak.

Start spreading rumors that the country has a large untapped oil reserve.  That's why the US attacked Iraq, even if they say it's for other reasons.

I guess all we can hope is that it passes over quickly and doesn't escalate.

Yeah, I'm really scared now... Yesterday there was fire really close to my house, and you can even hear the guns. But I seriously believe all this shit won't help at all. The government will keep doing whatever the fuck they're doing, they won't listen to the people they're supposed to protect. When the police are the murderers, I think it's just better to give up...

Mcain already said that the U.S.A should send troops to Venezuela. Obama hasn't said anything as far as I know.

There is A LOT of oil...and I mean A LOT...there's no secret or rumors here, so U.S sending troops isn't that hard to imagine, and heck that's fine by me, for every Venezuelan soldier the U.S army kills, I will give them a glass full of oil.
