I was thinking that too. But did you see the new Riff? I has little LED's all over it, and a camera capture. MS Could put those LED in infrared and use Kinect. Just seems to similar for their not to be a connection. Why did add IR LED's to the controller? I know they have been hinting on 'big secret' projects and they have canceled that thing that changes your room with lights, illumiroom. So what are they? hmm Other than glasses, what else might it be? (Props with lights in them like a light saber?) |
IR LEDs on XBOX do the same thing as the LEDs on the DS4. Kinect tracks it to know who has which controller. Can be applied to splitscreen gaming.
Also it's a form of Kinect for the core. Kinect tracks the controller allowing motion controls and buttons to work together. Microsoft gave a very short glimpse of this back at the May reveal. The controller's vertical position was mapped to an in-game shield. Raise the controller in real life to raise the shield in game.
