When will Sony release a Power-Cord Less SKU?

Now 14 22.22%

Yes 5 7.94%

2014 2 3.17%

2013 2 3.17%

MP3 support first 8 12.70%

After Gamepad-Less Wii U SKU 2 3.17%

After Kinect-Less XB1 SKU 4 6.35%

After Atari Releases new ... 20 31.75%

Gen 9 6 9.52%

Total:63

Would be a weird move at first, but then when you think about it you have like a dozen of these cables lying around already (I have anyway), so it wouldn't be a problem either.

Sure, those thousands of dollars saved will totally offset the pissed off customers.

But just think how much Microsoft would save if they dropped the whole power brick.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Stupid idea. Video game developers wouldn't support the power chord unless every console owner had one.

The original Kinect for example failed to deliver for that very reason: It wasn't forced on customers, it was optional. Or, at least, that's what we Xbox fans prefer to believe.

PS4 sales seems to be doing good but Sony as a whole is going through major restructuring which is costing a whole lot of money. Why not shave of the extra $0.50 from the PS4 and let the consumer choose what kind of power cord they wish to use?

They would save 3 million USD and reduce there projected losses to 1.097 Billion.

AC power cords are so common that finding one is relatively simple, people can even use their slim/superslim PS3 power cord for their ps4.

Or they could pass off some of those savings to the consumer and have the sku cost $399.50 USD which reduces the price gap between it and the Wii U and increases the price gap between it and the Xbox One.

Especially with the cord cutting phase sweeping the mainstream world, I think it would be wholly beneficial to creating a clean living room space.

You get it  backwards   Sony is NOT including a power cord for free. The PS4 costs 395 bucks  you already pay 5 for the power cord =400

You also pay 15 more for the HDMI cable even tho everyone can buy 10m of HDMI cables on ebay for 3-4 bucks.  But according to console manufacturers 1.5m costs 20bucks.

That would cost a lot of money as well. Boxes would need to be re-printed and the whole process would need some slight modifications.

Better to just introduce a "scarcity fee" of $1 for every unit sold until stock problems are resolved.

That's actually a great idea. Especially considering most gamers had a PS1, PS2, or PS3, so they can just use the power cord from one of those. Sony just doesn't get their audience.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

They can also just ship out the PS4 IKEA style. Just parts. The customer can figure it out. Then they can shut down all their manufacturing facilities. Can you imagine how much they would save from an operating stand point.

I always said the power cord was a mistake, it's too expensive and 3rd party developers don't know how to make use of it properly.

But it's too late now, Sony has to stick with it or split their install base down the middle

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

That would be ridiculous because every PS4 game relies on the power cord unlike the WiiU GP or the Kinect.

But if Sony is close to going bankrupt in two years like some people think... then maybe, because every penny counts.

I suggest just gluing two PS2's together and selling the SKU for $150, Sony won't be able to fulfill demand at a mass market price like that, saving even more money!

Glue would hold the two for maybe all of 10 seconds, can't go cheap on the consumers like that! Duct tape is the way to go.
